We were lucky to catch up with Quiy Speaks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Quiy, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
The best investment that I made into my business was the amount of money I decided to invest in myself! Before paying for ads, or for software, and all the cool fancy equipment, I invested majority of my funds to coaching and personal development.
There really shouldn’t be a cap either on how much you are willing to invest in yourself and there are no limits to the ways you can invest in yourself. It could be as cut-dry as spending $1,000 on textbooks or spending $5,000 on a trip to go meet one of your favorite entrepreneurs at an event, the possibilities are endless!
What I will add however is a very important lesson I learned after becoming obsessed with my personal development, be very critical of who and what you invest in. Not every “coach” has the tools to impactfully coach you. So while you may be investing a lot in coaching and development, you could be also wasting money on the wrong people that can’t really help you. Have a process for vetting out who you seek help from.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Quiy Speaks and I am the host of The Million Dollar Mind Podcast, the #1 community for entrepreneurs in the mindset space. We came up with the name based on the principle of becoming before you arrive at your desired destination. So many of us desire wealth but lack the foundational principles that promote the accumulation of wealth. I saw a need, so I created a plan, quit my job back in 2019 and dedicated the last 3 years to having Million dollar conversations with really dope people that can not only reinforce the principles I preach to my clients and my audience in my book, but can also impact and inspire my community to move mountains.
Funny story, speaks is actually a stage name that was given to me while speaking when I lived in Miami. I was giving a monologue and one of the show hosts said “…that man could speak, call him Quiy Speaks!” Every since, I ran with it! As a mindset architect, my voice has definitely made the biggest impact in my communities, relationships and associations. I became hooked to the process of helping people evolve and become better!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot I had to make honestly was incorpoarting video to the podcast. For the longest we were told that video wasn’t important, focus on the quality of the show and audio, and though I understand where the person was going with that advice, in hindsight it wasn’t the best advice for my vision.
The show was doing really well traffic wise but the growth in other areas was very slow. Once we started incorporating video interviews and content into the show we actually started to get even more awareness which landed us a spot on top charts, and globally ranked in the top 5%!
Since added video content to the platform other areas of the show start improving like the quality of our guests, we started attracting 7 & 8-figure entrepreneurs with very decent followings. Our social media engagements started increasing and most importantly our private Facebook mastermind group started growing. So much has changed just from making that one pivot!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Again, the social media presence was kind of nonexistent until we started incorporating video to the show because quite frankly, content is king! Unfortunately I didn’t know useful ways to repurpose content to grow an audience before but now it is a huge part of how we are able to stay consistent with posting which is what I would say is most important!
How consistent are you able to stay with posting content for your audience and in what ways can you consistently provide value to your audience, second most important question! “What is my value add?”
This age of social media is really tricky because most of the content we consume is for people to feel validated. Looking for validation on social media means you’ll be around for a good time yes, but our platform we are going to be around for a long time, and that’s because we focus on giving value to our subscribers.
