Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quinton Daniels. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Quinton, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is to cater to all independent artists who are looking for an opportunity. We want to help develop artists of all genres to come and learn how to be their own business personnel as an artist. This mission means so much to me and us because artists need help! They don’t know who to trust anymore! Music is still important, and our creatives are giving up because of the lack of help, trust, and direction. So many artists are afraid to commit, communicate, and to explore their dreams and opportunities. Artists are quitting and finding other things to do that wouldn’t fulfill their souls like creating would. We want to bring back the community of artistry, creative love, and freedom! We can’t save it all, but we want to try with the help of personnel’s who’ve got experience in the industry. OceanFive has layers, we have management and A&R’s who are geared towards growth and development! We are here to help!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Quinton Daniels and I’m born in raised out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Growing up in churches I’ve always been intrigued with God and music. I’ve had the pleasure in writing for multiple artists, mainstream and underground as a Ghost-Writer. In high school I was apart of the A cappella choir | Led by music teacher Jamie Holdren where I learned some great core values of music. I was also in a quartet group called “Tru Identity”. Last but not least, I was apart of the world “Choir games” which brought people from different nationalities together for music competitions. Along side of that I am a producer, musician, and audio mixer. I’ve worked with several artists and music industry professionals in this matter. I got into the music industry by always learning to build bridges along the way. Networking and connecting is the best efficient way to progress. So with prayer and hard work, I achieved such. Artists must learn to never give up, and have a determination of always looking to achieve and learn. We at OceanFive Records | OceanFive Christian Label, provide development, growth, specific marketing, distribution through our partner (Symphonic Distribution,) and many other tools to help artists strive. Symphonic is a great distribution company and is used in several different countries which is who we have a deal with for our artists to have their music heard. We as a label don’t do everything for the artists, but more of an addition to what independent artists already have working by their own networking. We have several tools such as a live production band which is led by Lynashia and Kevon Godfrey. We also have on hand designers, producers, and so much more. Our Founder Skylar Ward has set a key standard for us to uphold! She has formed the foundation and we are just pushing the needle forward!
As a label, I’m most proud of how organized we are! I’m also proud of how we continue to navigate through changes in the industry, and changes in people lives! No we are not perfect by any means, but we pride ourselves on making sure we give it our all as a label and a community!
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The best advice I can give for maintaining a team is to always look for ways to stay positive! It’s important to understand that not all days will be good, but together we can get through the tough times. Each individual provides something unique that needs to flourish! But that can’t happen if leadership isn’t pushing, and uplifting the community. Positive thoughts leads to positive change, which leads to positive outcomes. So in the end, if all of these things are pushed into the atmosphere it will create positive/high morale
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for us is to remain honest about what we do as a label. Honesty is the best medicine with dealing with artists who are independent, especially if they’ve been hurt elsewhere. I don’t care if their journey didn’t reach the expectations of what they thought it would, at least we will provide exactly what we told them that we would provide. That’s not only the label strategy, but my life’s strategy! No need to exaggerate, but only educate in this industry.
