Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quintina Rocio. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Quintina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My journey with AEZIRA began with my own personal healing journey. I was caught in a relentless cycle of shame, too afraid to ask for help, too paralyzed to acknowledge the depth of my trauma. It was as if I was living in a cage, one where the bars were made of my own fears and self-doubt. There came a point where I knew I couldn’t go on like this. Something had to change, or I wouldn’t survive. That realization was both terrifying and liberating. It was the moment I decided to take control of my life, to dig deeper into the reasons why I felt broken and to find a way out of the darkness.
I started to learn more about Reiki, hoping it might offer some relief. But what it did was so much more than that—it opened a door I didn’t know existed. As I delved into the practice, I began to ask myself, “Why isn’t anyone doing this for mental health?” The question gnawed at me, urging me to explore the connections between trauma and the body, between PTSD, depression, anxiety, and the ways our minds and bodies respond to such traumatic experiences.
The more I researched, the more I understood how trauma impacts specific areas of the brain and body. I realized that mental health isn’t just about the mind—it’s about the whole person. How their environment at an early age creates the belief system in how we perceive the world. How people who were raised from love vs people who were raised to survive are impacted. How trauma convinces us that to shrink, to hide, to feel alone. And most importantly, how hopelessness robs us of meaning and mindfulness.
I started to create a treatment plan that addressed these areas, focusing on holistic side of healing rather than just treating symptoms. I wanted to offer something that didn’t conflict with personal beliefs but rather aligned with the natural rhythms of the body and mind. Putting these theories into practice with clients who had experienced trauma was a profound experience. These were people, like me, who were looking for something more, something that didn’t feel invasive or dismissive of their beliefs. I saw firsthand how powerful it could be when we encourage clients to dig deeper, to recognize when the energy in their body is unbalanced, and when their nervous systems are overactive. It was about creating self-awareness and self-acceptance as the keys to regulating the body once triggers were recognized.
As AEZIRA began to take shape, I envisioned a ripple effect within the community. I saw how empowering trauma survivors could not only change their lives but could also create a broader impact, particularly among those living in poverty. These are people most affected by trauma, often with the least access to healing services. Which is why it’s important to make these services accessible, regardless of financial background.
AEZIRA is more than a nonprofit organization—it’s a movement. It’s about collective healing, about bringing holistic services to those who have been left out, and about creating a space where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can find peace and empowerment. I’m proud of the work we’re doing, and I’m committed to continuing this journey, not just for myself, but for every survivor who needs a way out of the darkness.
Quintina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After enduring trauma in my childhood and most of my adult life, I learned the true lack of guidance and tools necessary to effectively cope with these experiences, carved wounds into my self-esteem, shaping the way I saw myself and the world around me. I carried that pain with me because I never addressed it, and it seeped into every aspect of my life, especially my relationships.
Unresolved trauma has a way of attracting more pain. I found myself drawn to people who seemed to validate the feelings of unworthiness and shame I felt deep inside. Over time, I started to notice a pattern. The same cycle kept repeating itself, just with different faces. It was like the universe was trying to show me something I wasn’t ready to see. But eventually, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I had to ask myself, “What do I need to change to stop this from happening again?” That question was the beginning of a shift, a turning point where I started to take control of my healing.
These experiences, as painful as they were, also gave me something invaluable: empathy. It gave me the ability to understand my clients on a deeper level because I walked a similar path. I knew what it felt to be trapped in a cycle, and the powerlessness of not being seen and understood. And I wanted to offer a space for clients to safely unpack those burdens.
At AEZIRA, we provide a space where clients can come in and simply rest. It might seem like a small thing, but when you’ve been carrying the weight of trauma for years, having a place to let go, even just for a little while, can make a world of difference. When I enter each Reiki session, my intention is always to pour love into empty cups. I see the inner child in every client who lies on my table, and I know that child is yearning for the love and acceptance they may have never received.
There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing my clients at peace, hearing them share their experiences on the table, and knowing that I’ve played a part in their healing. Each session is tailored to meet the unique needs of the person in front of me because I believe that healing isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey. Every person’s trauma is different, and so is their path to recovery.
I’m incredibly proud to be trusted by my clients to aid in their healing journey. It’s a privilege to walk alongside them, to offer a space of safety and understanding, and to see the transformation that takes place when they begin to heal. AEZIRA is a commitment to the community and helping others find the peace and empowerment that everyone deserves.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Utilizing social media has been one of the best strategies for growing my clientele. I’ve been able to create a community, offering a glimpse into the transformative work we do at AEZIRA. Social media has become an extension of my practice, allowing me to offer support and guidance to a broader audience than I ever could through traditional methods alone.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Embracing vulnerability is what helped me build my reputation, especially with new clients who struggle with opening up. It shows that healing isn’t about having it all together – it’s about being honest with where you are. This openness breaks down barriers, allowing us to connect on a deeper level and begin the true work of healing together.
