We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Quinten Hull. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Quinten below.
Quinten, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Out of everything, I just want my photos to live on and everyone I have photograph to look back and love the photos I have taken of them, and all the memories that come from that time in their lives. I started taking photos to keep track of moments in my life and it transitioned into me doing that for others wish I truly love. I just hoped to be remembered for my contributions to photography and the memories I shared with those I’ve captured over the years. Photography saved my life and gave me purpose and I don’t know where I’d be without photography.
I think I will mostly be remembered for my photography and honestly.. staying true to my dreams, also being myself. People have always told me that I am extroverted (even though these days I struggle with talking to people) I do love people and interaction. So many stories to document, and I love meeting new people and learning about them, always have, always will.
Quinten, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yo! My name is Quinten, and I am a 27 year old photographer from Detroit! I have been experimenting with photography mainly for almost 10 years now, and I have been professional for about 5 years now. Funny enough I actually got into photography taking photos on a video game (Gran Turismo) and thats where I learned how to use photoshop/lightroom early on. I fell in love with the craft and I’ve been addicted since, my mediums these days are Portraiture/Lifestyle/Street photography. Started with just capturing my friends and things around me and slowly turned into me walking around Detroit capturing things I seen around the city. I always was super competitive growing up as a kid but it was photography that made me realize its not about any of what being competitive was about and really made me hone in on my craft. I really think my editing style and just how I capture photos sets me apart from others, and early on I was super into not being seen and just sending people the shots I got of them, hence how I got my username “whereisquinten” I really loved the thought of just being everywhere and shooting things out of the naked eye.
Doing all of this over the years actually got me to New York Fashion Week, and I fell in love when I got to New York, my first show I was going to shoot I actually worked with a established photographer that asked me to join him in assisting him with a shoot he was doing for Vogue and that was when I knew I wanted to do this forever, watching the process and the speed and knowledge he had regardless of our language barrier was beyond impressive to me. Since then I’ve gone back for 3 years and just captured and worked with models and the things around me. Meeting Heron Preston was the highlight of my year in 2023, shot his show in February. Shortly after this I was actually given the opportunity to work with Fujifilm (my absolute favorite camera company ever) and getting that recognition is the most proud moment in my entire photography career, to have them seeing what I do and my passion for photography meant the world to me and pushes me to go harder everyday regardless of the challenges.
Working with me you can expect a laidback approach. I am big on candids and a relaxed setting, working with people I promise a safe space, my job is to make everyone feel comfortable and good about themselves. Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face then giving a client or a close friend their photos back. That is absolute best part and what keeps me going. I am primarily a nature light photographer but I will occasionally use lighting and flash if that is the vibe we are trying to create. I try to create the most relaxed setting with my client so expect me to ask you to look at the photos to see what you like and dont like. I want everyone to love every shot they get with me
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The fact I am able to share my works with the world and anyone that chooses to work with me. Seeing someone super excited about their photos sends me into the best headspace ever and just ignites that fire to go even harder than the last.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The end goal with photography is to get my own studio one day and dive into a more Creative Director role. Also keeping the photography world alive, getting the youth into and assisting those that need camera with the things they need to get into photography!
