We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Quinn Gary. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Quinn below.
Quinn, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
While pursuing modeling I quickly realized that there was a lack of representation, and trained makeup artist for women of color. At this point of time women of color were unfortunately the only models that needed to come “base” ready (foundation on), or have makeup brought with you to ensure that you would look right for the gig. From that day forward my passion for makeup was ignited, I never wanted anyone else to feel or go through those circumstances again on any set!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Quinn Gary. I’m a passionate makeup artist looking to enhance the world’s beauty, one face at a time! I’ve been trained by some of the best makeup artist in the United States with over seven years experience in this industry. While Beauty may be my expertise, art and fashion is what captured my heart, and drew me into this profession.
I’m skilled in special effects makeup and application, but my forte is beauty, body-paint, and artistic makeup.
What sets me apart from others is my relentless quest for knowledge and sharing that with my clients whether that’s current trends, classic styles, or the latest techniques with professionalism and a upbeat attitude.
My proudest moment is having the opportunity to assist Key makeup artist James Vincent and Lead makeup artist Orlando Santiago in the 2017 KIA Presents Style360 New York Fashion Week shows. It proved to me that with hard work, persistence, and dedication that dreams do come true.
I truly look forward to connect with everyone with open arms. No task, nor question is too big or too small. I thrive off of helping others achieve any look.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a makeup artist is that I have the power to make people FEEL. Whatever that feeling may be, I enjoy assisting clients find what brings them happiness in the makeup industry.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I’m continuing to learn everyday is perfectionism! I tend to get in my head and put a lot of pressure on myself on details that I can only see, but the “beauty in art” is that no one knows my intended outcome except for me. It’s ok to take a step back, and finish the task at hand. I’m satisfied with my work when my clients are happy.
