We were lucky to catch up with Quinn Cosby recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Quinn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I had lived in San Diego, CA for 23 years and it was always home to me, but during and after Covid things started to change. With so many people flocking to San Diego to live, housing rates skyrocketed, and I soon became priced out of my living situation. I also had lost my passion for the job I had at the time and noticed the energy of San Diego was also changing. I realized I also wasn’t trying to look for new jobs in San Diego and felt a change was coming but I didn’t know what.
I had mentioned how things were going to a friend of mine in general conversation and he offered me an opportunity to move out to Palm Springs, CA where they were looking to get out of Airbnb’ing their condo and have a full-time tenant. It was a landing pad and an opportunity to start fresh. I knew I wanted to stay in southern California, I wanted a small-town vibe and to be close enough to visit my friends in San Diego. I’ve always loved visiting the desert and Palm Springs over the 12 years prior for weekend getaways and to visit my friends. The desert always had very healing/grounding energy, the same as living by the water in San Diego did.
I thought about it and before I knew it, it was my soul calling me out to the desert. I had no idea what my life would look like once I got there but I have taken a risk like this in the past before and trusted that I would make a life for myself again. So, I decided to take the risk, be fearless and jump into uncertainty. Fully leaning into the fact that the universe also has my back.
I resigned from my job, moved to Palm Springs and was going figure it out. I was fortunate enough to take the first month off to move and settle in. The second month I took a staycation to really get to know Palm Springs even more and treat myself to a well-deserved, long overdue vacation and spent a lot of time doing spiritual introspective work to put a plan in motion of my new path. I took the time to really sit with what my three top passions were and how could I merge them all into one lane. They were 1) working with active seniors 55+ (Hello! I just moved to the mecca of retirement communities!). 2) I wanted to do Professional Organizing, and 3) I wanted to do energy work (reiki/spiritual guidance). I also knew I didn’t want to commute far. The third month I spent searching all of the retirement communities in the Coachella Valley, getting my business license and insurances set up, creating my own marketing materials on Canva that included all three passions, and then started networking.
After a couple of weeks, I met the Activities Director, for a luxury apartment community for active seniors 55+ LGBTQ + allies, at a networking event. This was actually top of my list of places I was interested in working for/with. I stopped by Living Out after our initial meeting, dropped off my new marketing materials and he asked me on the spot if I could lead guided meditations. I said, “Yes!” right away even though I had never led one. I had done many on my own and have been to meditation retreats, but I also led Reiki (energy work) sessions for clients, so I didn’t think any different of leading a guided meditation. He offered me a spot that next week to do a trial run, see how it went over for the residents and if they want to have them weekly thereafter. Well, it was a hit, and I was invited back weekly to lead them. I loved it there so much, it felt like instant family, so I asked what other opportunities they had, and I got hired to work the Front Desk to interface with the residents and then was offered a chance to offer my own business services in Professional Organizing to the residents moving in or in need of assistance downsizing and reorganizing their units.
It was a dream come true to be living out all of my passions under one roof, only four minutes from where I live, and I’ve now been there almost one year and expanding on my services to them and the greater Palm Springs community beginning this coming Fall 2026! I couldn’t be happier and feel more blessed that this manifestation came to life in the short time that it did!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Professional Organizing – I’ve been a natural at organizing ever since I was little. I used to organize my personal things and redecorate my room every 4 years. “A place for everything and everything in its place” kind of mindset. In my early 20’s I started organizing my mom and dad’s closets and garages. Not until my 40’s did I realize that organizing was considered a profession and something you could get certified in, which I did. I started helping friends downsize and organize their rooms or they would ask me for design advice. Once I started working for a window treatment company, I would be doing onsite consultations in people’s homes, and they would naturally ask me if I knew of any organizers to help them with the rest of their house. This then led to opportunities to help them organize their homes on the side since I was willing and able to help them. So, it was a win-win and did not compete with my other design job. It became a hobby I got paid for. After organizing for a few of them I realized it was my true passion, and I wanted to make a career out of it. So, once I moved to the desert, I started promoting myself through my marketing materials and Before & After photos of jobs I’d completed, and by ‘word of mouth’ landed working with active seniors at a luxury apartment complex. I also extend these services to those in the greater Palm Springs area.
Energy Work/Reiki & Guided Meditations – My late father got certified in Reiki when I was young and he used to do mini sessions with my brother and I when we weren’t feeling well. That was my first introduction to it. Not until my 40’s, did I start to dive into the spiritual path of learning about Buddhism and getting certified in Reiki myself. I started practicing on friends and family and learned how to offer it remotely besides the in-person sessions. It was such a rewarding and validating experience to share similar take aways after sessions that it inspired me to practice that much more. One of my dear friends and I met at a New Year Premonition Ceremony event in San Diego, CA. We connected and started practicing at each other’s places twice a week and our intuitive gifts grew exponentially. I continued doing sessions for friends and family and then paid clients.
I actually infuse the guided meditations I lead for the residents where I work now with Reiki, and they’ve said they can actually feel a difference the second they step in the room and also how they feel after the meditations. I teach them to work with their own energy during the guided meditations and it’s so beneficial on many levels. I’m now working on expanding private guided meditations and reiki sessions to the senior residents where I work as well as the greater Palm Springs community. It’s just as healing for me to create and rehearse the guided meditations on themes that we all can use reminders in. I come up with a general outline for the meditation and some points I’d like to cover that I think are relevant to whom I’m doing the session for and then let spirit channel through me what’s meant to be expressed during the meditation so that it resonates and is relevant to the intention of the meditation.
Working with active seniors – The last job I had in San Diego, CA, working as a design consultant, doing in-home consultations allowed me to befriend a number of my clients. I soon realized that a number of them were active seniors 55+. They would invite me to hang out in their RVs with them or go to dinner and even travel together. I’m actually headed to Bali in 2026 with one of them. Once I moved to the desert, it hit me that I should make a point to work with the active senior demographic in Palm Springs which is heavily populated. It was a natural fit and has felt like working with family ever since. I have so much to learn and appreciate about them as they do me. I’ve always believed in finding the human connection, expressing genuine interest, kindness, compassion and love for everyone, especially in later phases of life. And the reward of great friendships, stories, experiences and wisdom that follows is priceless!
As an energy healer, I quickly learned that by cleansing, transforming and literally healing the home, you also heal the people living in it. Removing clutter, downsizing, purging, regifting, repurposing, rearranging all lead to good positive energy flow and improved relationships with oneself and others. This process saves you time, energy, stress and money so you can have more time in your schedule for fun and the joy of living. I’ve helped people going through many of life’s transitions i.e. new baby, empty nesters, divorce, new home (independent, assisted, long term care), end-of-life phases and losing a loved one. Being with someone in their most sacred, intimate space, the home, you get to know their life, their family, their story, their situation. It has inspired me to start offering Life Transitions Emotional Support Coaching as an extension to my other services.
