We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Quinlan Deakin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Quinlan below.
Quinlan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Hey my name is Quinlan Deakin and my mission is to not only become an actor in great cinema but also produce some of my own productions. I think the movies being produced at the moment have lost their way. They would rather pump out heaps of content instead of making great cinema.
My mission as an up and coming actor breaking into the US market is to really bring back humanity and feelings into the characters I am lucky enough to play. I love being an actor, being able to perform and live in someone else’ shoes. That is the luxury I get to experience in my work.
My mission is to remind people through cinema that being vulnerable is such a beautiful thing. It is hard to be vulnerable in such a dystopian world where everything feels commercial. Its time to bring back our organic unapologetic selves. This is the beauty of being human.

Quinlan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was a young boy I was very quiet/shy. The drama teacher in my primary school at the time chose me to be a lead in a performance where I was both acting and singing.
I performed this in front of the whole school. For a boy that was shy my confidence shined on stage, it was like a switch was flicked. My mother used to sing in bands when she was younger herself and could see my potential in the performing arts, so she sent me to dancing schools. I fell in love with the performing arts of dancing and my dream was to be a professional dancer and choreographer. I always had this desire to become big in creating music videos as I also studied in Photography. So having the dance and photography background and love for music I had this clear vision. I started working on music videos for dancing and began to love being on camera and the creative process.
Thats where my love for acting came from. I did the theatre thing but I really fell in love with the way you can edit, cut and manipulate the point of view through the camera lens.
I attended screenwise, a well respected film/tv acting school where I completed a one year course developing more of an understanding with acting.
Since, I have been on set but now Im ready for more bigger projects.
Recently applying to get my O-1 visa to work in America after visiting LA in September of 2024.
I met up with agencies/managers and attended workshops to better develop and get an understanding of the US market.
I’ve always been a unique person, never felt like I’ve quite fit in with society norms.
I think being a creative person you’re always pushing boundaries and challenging whats normal which makes me stand out from a crowd.
I love to embrace change and bring energy and positive aura to my work which allows me to take on characters and bring them to life.
I am now ready to bring me and my magic to the film industry.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is part of being a actor.
My experience, I have been acting for about 5 years now. To be committed for 5 years is a big deal. A lot of people expect things over night in this industry but thats usually not the way it works.
Overtime you gain more life experience which then I can put towards my work.
I’m growing and changing everyday.
I get really excited knowing there is so much coming my way! I believe in myself and am constantly challenging myself to improve my performances, and that takes resilience.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Previous projects I have worked on has given me a good reputation in the Australian market. I am definitely one to always help out on set wherever I can. I know a lot of talented actors myself who I always recommend if there is a casting call. I also love sharing my knowledge with previous photography studies when it comes to filming on set. I think staying connected to other creatives, keeping a positive attitude and bringing your all when you go on set and helping each other out is a great way to keep a reputation of reliability, professionalism and awesomeness.
