Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quincy Palmer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Quincy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe success takes sacrifice, discipline and consistency. Although it seems as if luck or “chance” leads some people to success, but we often don’t consider the sacrifice or consistency that was needed to fall upon that perceived luck. If your growth is dependent on your network, then getting out, shaking hands and making connections is something that needs to be done consistently. Even if you don’t feel like it, stepping out for the 15th time might be more crucial to that next step than the last 14 failed attempts to make connections.
Sacrificing time, sleep, and leisure may be necessary at times. Staying focused and disciplined enough to spend and save money where necessary. Investing in yourself even if it’s close to your last dollar, rather than spending on unnecessary pleasures. Consistency is key to maintaining what you earn from your discipline and sacrifices.

Quincy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I first made the leap to making my craft my sole means of income in 2018. Going into my senior year of college, I worked a summer job to save money for DJ equipment with plans of going back to school and playing at parties and campus events; and that’s what I did. But before that, I began my journey with music in elementary school playing the snare drum. I continued the school music program until the 9th grade, but in that time I had taught myself to play the drum set, piano and sequence my own music. After leaving the school music program, I continued to make beats and explore my creative interests as a hobby. Even dabbling into DJing with a friend of mine in high school. Going into college I continued to explore and invest in music making equipment and dove heavily into producing beats and making remixes.
By the end of my senior year of college in the spring of 2019, I had made a name for myself throughout the school and local area as a DJ. I used my platform as a DJ to connect with independent artists as a producer and aspiring engineer, offering recording and productions services out of the studio I had built in my campus apartment. After graduation I moved out of my family home and took the risk of living off of the income I created as a DJ/ Producer in my college town of Stroudsburg, PA. I had successfully maintained and built upon my career, expanding to gigs in the tri-state area. Taking work in eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
I was going strong with an upward trajectory until the pandemic hit in March of 2020. At that point I had to redirect my path and find a way to keep going as my career to that point left me convinced that this was something I was meant to do and want to do for as long as I can. After noticing that the south was a little more open than the northeast region of the U.S. during that time, I made the leap to Atlanta with no prior knowledge or network in this city. I continued to market myself and work exactly how I always have, networking and taking any opportunity I could. The process of relocating during the pandemic wasn’t easy by any means, but once again my perseverance led me to believe that I am doing exactly what I should be doing. Since moving to Atlanta I have continued to grow in my craft and climb the ladder of success to this day.
As of today, I play weekly gigs as a DJ in popular spots around the city, such as Apt. 4B and Our Bar ATL. I’ve played at MJQ, a popular dance club located on Ponce, Bonfire, a popular weekly social gathering on the west side, often play at events for SCAD, a prestigious art school located in midtown. I host monthly artist showcases, giving independent artists a platform to perform and connect with crowds and other artists. I continue to work in studio with independent artists, producing albums and recording/ mixing music as I’ve become known for a distinct and professional sound. More recently, I’ve began Directing music videos for artists and songs that I’ve produced, which has been a fun and unique creative expression I’ve added to my arsenal.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Quality of work and a visible passion for what I do. Whether it be DJing, a studio session or creative collaboration; I tend to resonate with those who work with me or have seen me work. Since beginning my career journey in Atlanta, my growth and movement throughout the city has happen almost exclusively through mutual respect and word of mouth. Respect from other DJs has opened doors to new events, venues and gigs to play at where I’ve built lasting relationships. The work I continue to do in the studio leads to the next artist, or next client. My quality and sound has become something distinct and sought out by those who come across my work. Whether it be recommendation from artists I’ve worked with, or admiration from social media posts.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I’ve been able to try my hand in visual direction thanks to my many friends with cameras. My association with the Before The World Ends collective of Addachy Media, AJ Goddard and KimmThaGod has allowed me to learn the inner workings of visual production and offer creative input. Another close friend of mine, Rare Xano, is a successful and cutting edge video director who has been supportive of me from day one, collaborating with me on videos that feature songs that I’ve produced, as well as connecting me with new artists. These key people I met in my time in college in Stroudsburg PA, and they have all found their way in Atlanta with me.
A surprise but greatly welcome addition to my creative conglomerate of friends is actually now my girlfriend, Haley Parker. Since we’ve met about a year ago, she has been incredibly supportive in my creative endeavors and uses her skills of photography, videography and direction to collaborate with me in creating content for myself and my artists. We have collaborated and directed several music videos together in the past year and continue to find new creative and innovative mediums to create visual art.
