We were lucky to catch up with Quincy Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Quincy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
The biggest lessons came in college. The first time around, I failed out of SFA. It was such a big jump moving from high school and being dependent on parents and school staff to guide you to being out in the middle of the ocean alone. I didn’t realize I was learning a lesson, but I was.
I came home and took a break from school for a while.
Fast forward to 2011, when I had lived a little life, I enrolled in the University of Texas at Dallas. I learned from experience that no one is coming to save you. You must seek out the opportunities you want and build the right skills and relationships to take full advantage of the opportunity. I ended up Cuma Sum Laude for my Undergrad, then moved on to graduate with my Master’s.
You are not a sum of your failures; your life is a collection of lessons you can learn from or fail the class.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Quincy Johnson, marketing operations and demand generation strategist with nearly two decades of experience in helping B2B businesses leverage data-driven systems to accelerate revenue growth. My career journey started with a deep interest in how technology can enhance marketing effectiveness, and this passion has led me to specialize in account-based marketing (ABM), performance marketing, and RevOps (Revenue Operations).
I’ve worked across multiple roles throughout my career, from a Digital Marketing Specialist to Senior RevOps Consultant and now a RevOps Strategist. In these roles, I’ve worked with diverse clients, helping them achieve meaningful outcomes through strategic demand generation, channel optimization, and campaign management. I also serve as a Marketing and Social Media Lecturer at the University of Texas at Dallas, where I share my industry insights with future marketers.
At Magnetic Theory Consulting, where I am the Owner and Principal Consultant, I partner with businesses to transform their marketing strategies into sustainable revenue-generating models. My work focuses on solving complex challenges in demand generation, marketing operations, and revenue alignment, helping clients turn marketing insights into actionable strategies that foster growth. My commitment to implementing technology and ensuring it aligns seamlessly with a company’s unique goals and growth metrics sets me apart.
I am most proud of my role in guiding companies through the evolving digital landscape, especially in light of recent changes in data privacy and tracking policies. I bring a grounded yet innovative marketing approach rooted in strategic thinking and a hands-on understanding of today’s technology landscape for anyone considering working with me. I’m here to help businesses thrive in the ever-changing marketing ecosystem by building reliable, scalable systems that generate real, measurable value.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson that I had to unlearn was that I am worth more than just keeping my head down and working for “good benefits”. Initially, my parents wanted to ensure that I was set up for long-term success for me and my future family, but at the cost of always playing it safe.
At some point I realized that if you want to win big you had to take larger calculated risks to learn at scale.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
More recently, I had to pivot and go into full entrepreneur mode when a primary revenue source was turned off. At this moment, I had to work harder and understand that I cannot get comfortable on my laurels because business and life are cyclical, but the demands to sustain life are constant. The world moves on, and often, people will only accept a sob story to a certain point.
