We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Quianna Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Quianna below.
Alright, Quianna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Model Career: I’ve always wanted to become an model when I was younger. I was petite with beautiful features. My aunt used to tell me that I would be an perfect model someday. Back in 2016 I’d started taking photos to help build my portfolio. Over the years I begun to take pictures of myself. In 2021 I’d started to walk in fashion shows. Walking in fashion shows has always been one of my dreams. Modelling isn’t easy, but it’s easy to learn to do what I’ve always loved. I’ve learned to walk runways by watching some of the best models runways shows. Tyra Banks is my idol. Watching Americans Next Top Model inspired me! So I’ve been knowing how to walk the runways for some time now. If I would’ve participated in shows when I was younger I’m sure I could’ve been further in my model career. Being able to walk in heels is an plus. Also, knowing how to rock whatever clothing I put on is something that comes naturally. The obstacles that stood in my way were self belief and self confidence. I didn’t believe in myself enough to even start at first. There is nothing in this world now that could stop me from achieving my model goals now.
Baker: I’d started baking with my grandma when I was about 5 years old. We would bake cakes, pies and cookies. My grandma would say that she wasn’t the best baker, but I was confused because everything would taste so good. Baking has been another passion of mines. I began to bake more when I had kids. I would sometimes bake cakes for dessert after dinner. One day I was trying to order my daughter some cupcakes for her 3rd birthday party. I wasn’t able to place the order in time so I was forced to make them on my own. I’d already knew I could bake. So it was easy for me to say “I’ll make them!” My daughter had wanted her cupcakes to be unicorn theme. I’d ordered everything I’d needed to create her cupcakes from Amazon. I’d watched YouTube videos to see the different looks others had created. I’d chosen an look I felt was the best look for her party from watching the videos. After making the unicorn theme cupcakes I’d realised how talented I was. Learning new skills own my own is fun but learning different techniques from others would probably take less time. Taking baking classes would most likely help better my craft and I look forward into doing so.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Michigan model and baker. Over the years I’ve challenged myself to overcome my fears. I’ve always knew I could become a model based on the pictures I would take. I didn’t think I could do runway shows because back then your height mattered. Now of days your height nor weight doesn’t even matter. I was able to start somewhere knowing that information. I wasn’t scared anymore! Taking pictures was easy at first. When you have so many emotions they can sometimes show in your photos. I had to learn to not always think of the negative things that went on in my and try to have happier thoughts when taking pictures. In 2022 my sister Courtney Cage had told me to sign up for THE MODEL EXPERIENCE upcoming fashion week runway show. I’d signed myself up, but I wasn’t chosen the first time around. I was offered to fly out to take headshots at the number one BEAUTY BLINDER located in California. After submitting the headshots to them an second time around I was accepted to walk in the upcoming fashion week that year. I was able to walk for ARIKALIS clothing. Such an great experience! Baking is another passion of mines. When I was younger I would always be in the kitchen baking up some stuff with my grandmother. She didn’t believe that she could bake but I believed that she was one of the best bakers. She could literally make anything you wanted. I would love to follow in my grandma’s foot steps and continue baking and making treats. I’ve started my business making treats because I have 4 children. I’d got tired of paying for birthday party cakes, cupcakes and treats. In 2020 there was this time where I had needed cupcakes for my youngest daughter 3rd birthday party. I was unable to place an cupcake order in time for her party so I decided to make them on my own. She’ had wanted unicorn theme cupcakes. I took the time out to order the things that I’d needed and the cupcakes turned out amazing. I also had made chocolate covered pretzels, strawberries, and cake pops! Over the years I’ve been learning different techniques to help me prefect my craft. Watching YouTube videos of other bakers and the knowledge I have from watching my grandma has helped me. I am self taught but I would like to learn hands on from others to become a lot better.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In early 2021 I was facing depression. I was dealing with relationship problems that left me unfocused. I wasn’t able to focus on things I wanted to accomplish in life. I’ve always wanted to model but being that I was on the short side, it stopped me from branching out into the career. Late June of 2021 after leaving my unhealthy relationship I was walking down the street and one of my cousins stopped me. She yelled “is that my beautiful cousin?” She was so excited to see me and to inform on an opportunity to walk in an fashion show that was located in Chicago,Il. I’d took up her offer and contacted the people I was told to contact. In August of 2021 I was walking in my very first fashion show wearing BORNRICH CLOTHING LLC. I did so well in my first show that I was able to go on to walk in many shows. Such as TNT Beauty, The Model Experience, and BORNRICH Clothing llc fashion shows. Being in certain situations that holds you back it’s smart. Once you understand your situation you can’t seat around. You have to minimise all negative so that you can remain focus. As I continue to hit obstacles in my path, I will not give up on my dreams.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to become one of the best models my aunt (Joyce Blake) knew I could be and the best baker my grandma (Peggy Cage)thought she weren’t! Rest easy my guardian angels! 🙏🏾
