We were lucky to catch up with Questa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Questa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
When I started my business I had no clue where it was going to take me or if it was going to take me anywhere. Even when I didn’t know what I was I doing I continued to keep going to see how far it will take me. Everything is a process in life the more you push through the further you go.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi my name is Questa and I am the founder of Loccbar located in Decatur Ga. I specialize in protective styles such as locs, loc styling, starter locs, loc reattachments, loc detox, two-strand twist, and wig installs.
January will mark the 3rd year I’ve been doing hair. I was just a college student doing hair out my dorm room trying to get money at first and now I’m graduating college in December and a business owner! Dreams come true if you have faith and don’t give up. Over the years doing hair has taught me a lot about myself as well as people. I enjoy meeting new people and building healthy relationships with my clients who trust me to grow and maintain healthy hair.
What sets me apart is my quality, its impressive and neat. I’m proud of myself for not giving up and pushing myself even when I didn’t think I could finish. Those are the times that I cherish the most.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
When I first started my business, I started off by doing makeup only. While doing makeup was going good, I didn’t feel like it was making me money. When I first started my main goal was to just make money. So I started to teach myself how to do hair because I felt like hair was more of a necessity compared to makeup. As time went on I got better with hair and I would still do makeup as well. But my main focus became hair.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Treating people how they treat me. Being a service provider I see a lot of ungrateful & inconsiderate tendencies which makes me want retaliate but I’ve learned to just let go of the things I can’t control and it has brought me success.
