Today we’d like to introduce you to Quentin Townsend Jr.
Hi Quentin , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a professional photographer after high school but I’ve been practicing the art since the age eleven. My pops and step-mom bought me and my older sister a HP camera for Christmas one year and I was hooked to how the glass in the little camera captured real life in such a unique way that you can feel what’s happening. I started exploring editing programs on free websites like Picnic.com, Myspace & software that I already had on the computer when I was young. Years fly by and my big sister buys me my first DSLR, a Canon Rebel Xs. I loved that camera, I took that beauty to school, track meets, basketball games, and any events that my family, school or pretty much anyone had. After high school I studied at CCP & The Art Institute of Philadelphia, that’s when I learned all about mirrorless cameras, developing styles, exploring more and so on and realized I can become a professional photographer with everything I was doing during the time (I was looking in the mirror like you’re living you’re dream bro) like I was becoming that photographer you thought you couldn’t be. I started working for multiple photography company like Picture People, Lifetouch, Photogenic Inc, other photographers & plenty more. During all that I was practicing my skills as creator and developing new ones with my experiences. I’ve been shooting for over 10 years now and I’ve been published in magazines, met incredible creative people during the process & continuing to grow and be the best me I can.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like I would be lying if I said YES! There’s no such thing as a smooth road to me. If there’s no breakthrough then how can you move forward to that next level that you want to be. There’s something at all times that you should look at that you can do better, no matter what it is and that comes with trial and error. That’s impossible to be a smooth road, unless you’re already there mentally but then again you could be working on that some more too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love what I do so much! It’s therapeutic to me, to create a vision that makes people remember those moments for lifetimes and sometimes even forever is magical to me. I met so many creative and cool people doing what I love and I can’t ask for me to do what I’ve done differently. I am mostly proud of the fact that I always stayed true to myself and my craft. So many photographers inspire me. I love the art so much but I never seen myself as another photographer, instead I appreciate their work and try to develop new ways to express my craft.
What makes you happy?
I love seeing people happy and true to themselves. Growth is real life changing, so why not appreciate it to the fullest.
