We were lucky to catch up with Quentin McAdoo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Quentin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In 2019, after witnessing widespread burnout and stress among my peers, I became interested in creating a business focused on wellbeing. A colleague introduced me to salt therapy, and after visiting several caves, I considered opening my own brick-and-mortar location. While people loved the concept, they noted it wasn’t particularly unique.
That’s when inspiration struck – what if I could bring the salt cave to people instead? After consulting with Good Vibes, I refined my vision: not just portable, but truly mobile – a salt cave on wheels. This addressed a clear gap in the market: accessibility and convenience for on-site self-care.
I envisioned people experiencing what it would feel like to be inside a Himalayan salt lamp. Working with the Salt Chamber, I developed a mobile unit featuring four zero gravity chairs offering salt therapy, virtual reality, red light therapy, chromotherapy, and guided meditation – creating a sanctuary to unplug, reset, and be still from the chaos of constant motion wherever you are.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Quentin McAdoo, founder of Mobile Saltworks, which I established in 2023. With degrees through the Master’s level, Halotherapist certification, PMI-ACP certification, HUB certification, and a background as a college athlete, I’ve spent a decade in healthcare and project management before venturing into wellness entrepreneurship.
After experiencing salt therapy in 2019, I saw an opportunity to make it more accessible by creating something truly innovative — a salt cave on wheels. My proudest achievement was securing and upfitting an all-electric van to house this unique mobile wellness experience, despite facing significant challenges obtaining commercial insurance for this novel concept.
Mobile Saltworks brings a way to be still wherever you are through different services: salt therapy, virtual reality relaxation, red light therapy, chromotherapy, and guided meditation — all in a serene environment featuring four zero gravity chairs.
What sets us apart is eliminating barriers to self-care by meeting people where they are. We transform wellness from an occasional luxury into an accessible necessity, creating moments of restoration for those experiencing burnout, stress, and anxiety in their daily lives.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting Mobile Saltworks tested my resilience at every turn. After finding the perfect all-electric van, I faced the unexpected hurdle of insurance. No carrier wanted to take on the risk of insuring salt therapy, virtual reality, red light therapy, and more inside a mobile unit—something that hadn’t been done before in quite this way.
For months, I navigated rejection after rejection, explaining my concept to countless agents who couldn’t understand the vision. I found myself in insurance limbo. Instead of abandoning the concept, I meticulously documented safety protocols, researched similar businesses in adjacent industries, and persistently educated potential insurers.
After nearly giving up, I finally found the best insurance agent that was able to find a carrier willing to create a custom policy. That moment taught me that innovation requires not just a good idea, but the perseverance to push through systems designed for conventional businesses. The day I secured both commercial and general liability coverage felt like a victory similar to fully upfitting the electric van.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation has been built on innovation and accessibility—reimagining wellness as mobile rather than stationary created immediate intrigue in the market. By offering a way to be still, reset, and unplug wherever you have been a game changer in our alternative approach to solving problems.
Furthermore, strategic partnerships and community connections have been equally crucial to our growth. Those collaborating include organizations like the Salt Chamber, Wake Tech, Holly Springs Chamber, Oak City Payments, and The McAdoo Group.
What truly resonated with customers was witnessing the transformation of an all-electric van into a sanctuary wellbeing environment. This tangible example of turning vision into reality demonstrated our commitment to sustainability and innovation. By solving the real problem of access to self-care in a busy world, we’ve built trust through genuine value creation rather than marketing promises. Word-of-mouth from people experiencing firsthand the unique combination of salt therapy, virtual reality, guided meditation, and chromotherapy in a mobile setting has been our most powerful reputation builder.
