We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Quendella Huggins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Quendella, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
I submitted for a casting maybe 3 years ago that completely changed my life, it was for a medical show called “Chasing the Cure, and it was to help people with undiagnosed medical problems. Most people that know me, knows that i am a cancer survivor, but a lot of people may not know the life long side effects that come from it. Long story short, being an artist/model/Influencer, i was always so insecure about my smile. I didn’t let it stop me from making music, auditioning, and pursuing what i love. The show introduced me do one of the finest dentist establishments in Georgia, GG&S, “Goldstein, Garber, & Salama. They gave me a completely new smile for zero cost! It completely changed my life and self esteem! I still visit them regularly and consider them family.
Quendella, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
A lot of people may not know this but i have been a co business owner for over 10 years. My graduation gift from my parents was an CPR, First Aid, and AED instructor through American Red Cross, It’s something i had been helping my mom with since i was 9. Since then i have also got my certification through American Heart and am now an Instructor for EMS. My mother, father, and i have revamped our business. I also freelance model, I’m an musical artist, with a passion for acting. I feel like my life completely changed after i went on National television and received my dream smile. Moving forward, i would like to be more transparent with my crafts, and create more positive content.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When i first started submitting for things, i noticed that most companies already want you to have a pretty big following, but they don’t tell you how to obtain it. Social media to me is kind of a numbers game, based on analytics, and have good click bait. Personally, i ended up under a mgmt team, that basically just wanted you to put out content and engage with the others on the team. In the long run, it actually paid off, because you were able to get consistent engagement. Although, i did not stay with that team, i took what i learned. Networking is key! If you don’t have a team to do it for you, prepare to be glued to that phone, but it definitely gets results.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think society should keep in mind that at the end of the day we’re all humans, no one is perfect, and be more open minded. We all have stories, journeys, and battles.
