We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Queen Rahmaya . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Queen below.
Queen , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I feel that I have been misunderstood and mischaracterized as an individual, because of my appearance and the way that I keep myself reserved internally. It definitely confuses people by the way I express fashion, beauty and art through my buried emotions and rebellion of societal standards. It came to the point where I was belittled and attacked for standing out, so I turned my pain into champagne. I have created music as an outlet and also created a cosmetics business for my community who feels that they can’t express themselves. I have definitely took the time to truly love myself and pay it forward for my community.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Queen Rahmaya, A music artist, Beauty Guru, podcaster and model. I am a multi-talented individual who love to give the world differentiality and art. I currently have three albums on all streaming platforms as well as a Cosmetics line called, “Queen Ramaya Beauty” and a podcast called “Q.U.E.E.N.Z Podcast by Queen Rahmaya”. What sets me apart from others is my individuality and I want my community to feel that individuality is relevant and ok. It’s okay to love your natural body, it’s okay to switch things up, it’s okay to look different! I am proud that I am leaving a legacy for my community and that I have gained respect from individuals who felt like an outcast.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn in this journey were that everyone will not support you. People will hold you down when you have something that they don’t have, From your personality, creativity, skills and positive attraction to individuals. I had to also learn that the only person who will be there for you is you! Only you can hype yourself up, only you can promote yourself, only you can love you!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My particular purpose and mission throughout my journey is taking my culture back. My people had too much taken away from us, from the royalty, the music, the eccentric styles of fashion and the loss of confidence. I’ve created Queen Rahmaya Beauty for the purpose of versatility within the bold colors of makeup that I wear as an alternative black woman. I didn’t see as many black alt individuals when I first started out, if anything I was severely bullied for standing out, Since social media is in the rise nowadays, I began discovering more individuals like me such as the music artist, “Rico Nasty.” There were plenty of days where I wanted to hang everything up, but my sole purpose of making my music, establishing my business and creating my podcasts were within me and I can’t just throw everything away. I might just saved a life without any knowledge of me being capable of doing so.
