We recently connected with Queen Kim and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Queen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
I am from South Korea and now live in Los Angeles. Growing up immersed in the film industry in both countries, I’ve observed significant changes in movie-making trends. In the U.S., there seems to be a shift away from originality, with fewer truly innovative films and a focus on franchises and series. Similarly, South Korea has also adapted to producing more series-oriented content rather than solely original films.
However, I remain optimistic that the industry will eventually return to prioritizing originality and creativity. Just as trends evolve, there’s a belief that the unique charm of standalone movies will make a comeback. With the right creative vision and storytelling, the movie industry can flourish once again, potentially even surpassing pre-pandemic success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“My name is Queen Kim, and I currently reside in Los Angeles. I graduated from film school in 2020, just as the pandemic began to reshape the industry. Despite its challenges, I was fortunate to become a key producer on the #1 Netflix movie ‘Chabak’. Now, I eagerly await my next project.
In the meantime, I am actively involved with my company, ‘QK Pictures’. We specialize in coordinating film productions globally, with a focus on facilitating shoots in the U.S. Our goal is to streamline the production process and ensure a smooth experience for all involved.
Our most notable clients are including HYBE studio, (where BTS, TXT and New Jeans and more belong to) and SBS which are big broadcast company in South Korea and more.
Reflecting on my journey, I’ve come to see setbacks as integral to personal growth. I encourage others to stay hopeful, as opportunities always arise when least expected. Remember, preparation is key for seizing the right moment.”
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist, if anyone could change minds through our art or creative pieces, believing that such changes can impact
the world would help maintain our goals.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is experiencing the finished piece. It’s a feeling akin to being
addicted to a drug, an insatiable drive to create art and continually strive for that feeling again and again.
