We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Que Morgan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Que , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I would have to say becoming an adept public speaker and moderator involves a combination of practice, preparation, and self-assurance. To work the room effectively, I first focused on mastering my speaking points and understanding my audience no matter the event. By rehearsing my approach and knowing my material inside and out, I gained confidence in my delivery. I also learned the art of engaging with the audience through eye contact, gestures, and vocal variety. Over time, I honed my ability to read the room, adapting my approach based on the audience’s reactions and feedback. Through continuous learning and experience, I developed the skills needed to captivate and connect with listeners, making each speaking engagement a fulfilling and successful experience. Whether as a speaker, officiant, hype man or host, today I understand that muted words never moved anyone.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, I’m Que Morgan, a Pontiac, MI native with over a decade of experience captivating audiences in various roles such as a professional speaker, moderator, officiant, hype-man, and brand influencer. I specialize in transforming ordinary moments into unforgettable experiences. My energetic and motivational approach encourages individuals to connect with their best selves and motivates them to take action. I am passionate about supporting brands that promote mental, physical, and environmental well-being.
Whether in person or virtually, I create safe and rejuvenating spaces for individuals to recharge and refocus. My work has been featured in publications like The Michigan Chronicle and Speakers Magazine. I have collaborated with renowned brands including Buzzfeed, Bank of America, Head and Shoulders, THINK!, and most recently, General Motors as a GM Employee Influencer. One of my most notable achievements is being chosen as the moderator for an employee town hall at General Motors, with the esteemed presence of Chair & CEO Mary Barra, GM President Mark Reuss, and CFO Paul Jacobson. I strongly believe that “conversation truly is the key to real connection.”

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2015, I embarked on my own radio show at a local college, focusing on showcasing people’s passions, products, and perspectives. Two years later, I bid farewell to my show and embraced a new challenge in front of the camera. The opportunity to host “Millennial Meal” on The Word Network via Facebook Live was both exhilarating and challenging.
As the season drew to a close, I received news that my grandmother had only two days to live. She had been my rock during tough times, filling the gaps when my parents were absent. Balancing personal life, brand building, and mental well-being became increasingly difficult. This struggle is familiar to many creatives, yet I was silently losing myself without anyone noticing. I had to acknowledge that setbacks sometimes pave the way for success. It was a tough lesson and a hard season, but I had to face my hurt, stay true to myself, and put in the effort, even when it felt overwhelming. I learned that it’s ok to not be ok.
Resilience is not just about bouncing back from adversity, but also about acknowledging and processing the losses we have experienced. It involves learning to mourn what is no longer a part of our lives, whether it be a person, a dream, a job, or any other significant aspect. By allowing ourselves to grieve and come to terms with our losses, we can find the strength to move forward and embrace new beginnings with a deeper sense of understanding and acceptance.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion, society can best support creatives in public speaking by providing accessible opportunities for them to showcase their talent and hone their skills. This can be done by organizing events such as open mic nights, poetry slams, or public speaking workshops where creatives can practice and receive constructive feedback.
Moreover, creating platforms for creatives to share their work online can also be a great way for them to reach a wider audience and receive recognition for their efforts. By fostering a supportive and encouraging environment for creatives to express themselves through public speaking and moderating, society can help them thrive and grow in their craft.
Additionally, if you are aware of event planners or programs that could benefit from a public speaker or moderator, please recommend them. Some of the best opportunities I have had arose from people mentioning my name in environments where I was not present.
