We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Que Maxwell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Que below.
Que, appreciate you joining us today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
One of the most unexpected problem that arises for me was being diagnosed with cancer. In December of 2019 I resigned from my job as a resident care coordinator. Vowing to take my business serious this time. Of course 2020 we were hit by the pandemic and business was doing great. 2021 came in and I had all types of plans to take my business to the next level. I started getting sick out of nowhere. First, I was hospitalized with multiple pulmonary embolus. Recovered from that and was hospitalized for anemia. On that last trip to the hospital I was unable to walk due to me being so weak. When I got to the hospital the doctor let me know that I wasn’t going home until they figured something out. After running additional tests I was then diagnosed with colorectal cancer. My life and business changed forever.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started out as a life coach. Just wanting to help people who was suffering with imposter syndrome and childhood trauma. I started helping a friend with her business and business plan. Then word started traveling that I help with brand creation and here I am now.
This year will be six years in business. I always heard the first five years are the hardest. I struggled, I rebranded and so many days I wanted to quit, but I kept going. I’m most proud of my 2021 Ubora award nomination. The fact that people saw me and knew, when I always play the background, was special to me.
What sets me a part from others is I focus on you and what matters to you. How are you mentally, what’s life like emotionally. I ask the hard questions to help you determine exactly what it is you want to do. I help you create a voice for your brand.
I don’t believe in losses and I’m okay with failing, because that’s where lessons are taught and courage is found.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped me grow my business is the fact that I’m teachable. I love constructive criticism, I love learning and I know that there is always better. I try to bring every clients visit to life. Sometimes? I hit it on the head and sometimes I miss the mark. I go back and listen to the client, give them my strategy for execution and knock it out until I get it right,

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I decided to go back to work, I had to figure out what was next for my business. I had to decide what was more important but, I had to let a lot of clients down with my decision. It was tough going back to a 9-5 after two full years of being a business owner. I had to limit my time with graphics and focus on the bigger picture for what I need at the time.
