Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quavea. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Quavea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
I strongly believe corporate america gets wrong the entire process of media. Being a photographer and content creator its almost impossible to cover events such as concerts, movie premieres or any other entertainment events. They only allow “media outlets” that have followings, if they do a news article on it. Its 2023 and and us photographers and content creators have much larger followings and better content than these so called outlets. Also no one is going to read a page about a event. People want to see VISUALS. Their attention spans also wont allow them to read that much about a event. It’s unnecessary. So many dope creators such as myself have got turned away because of this rule. I would love to change that. I will change that.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I honestly got into photography because I had a camera from helping a friend shoot their music videos. I stopped doing that and instead of selling the camera I started to use it to take pictures of my kids around the house and their events. I decided to move to Atlanta to get away from going down the wrong path and the first time I used my camera for anything outside of my home, I was sneaking inside of Jay Z’s arenas tour for his 4:44 tour and the rest is history.
I offer high quality photography services for concerts and behind the scene work for music videos. I also cover a range of different things such as sports, portraits, and small business content as well. Along with that I also do small video content. I like to offer high quality products with a fast turnaround time.Alot of people that I work with get not that good of quality of work that doesn’t last for their brand at a high cost. And in addition to that they have to wait WEEKS. Well not with me .
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I remember the first time I was on the set of a professional music video. I actually was invited at first but then again I wasnt lol. It was weird. The guy made a post about offering people a opportunity to come on set. Well i reached out and he told me that I was invited, well after that he never replied to my message when asked about what time or the location of the set. He just left me on read. I believe it was just a post he made to made it seem as if he was a welcoming guy. Well I was excited for this but felt some type of way about it. Well I wasnt going to just let it go away and something was telling me to figure out a way to find out about that set. Well I did my research after about a hour and I found the location of the video set. Once I got there I asked the guy about it and he made up some excuse. Well after that video shoot one of the artists, who was a major artist whos music I grew up listening to actually reached out to me and asked to work with me. That was my actual first client, let alone client. I like to think that guy was just a hurdle for me to get over to achieve something greater. And it was just that . I never seen that guy do another video again but luckily im still getting booking until this day. And that was 7 years ago. Wow time flys lol
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I started to notice that after all of the instagram updates that instagram was no longer a picture platform. I was the guy that didnt want do video because it was just another thing that I had to learn from the bottom. Fast forward to today and im glad that I did. Just last week one of my videos got over 2 million views. That would not have happened if I didnt start to do video.
