We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Quantal Langford a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Quantal, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
The journey has been an interesting one, it started with one on one freelance work. Over the years it has transitioned to annual and recurring project work from clients that I’ve developed relationships with, building out an apparel lifestyle brand, a video show and podcast, business partnerships, speaking engagements, and developing merchandise and collab designs for retail and licensing. This allows me to earn a full-time living from creative work.
The creative ecosystem under the Langford Studio brand is still growing, Developing relationships and connections has been one of my strengths and focusing towards clients that align with that growth.
Honestly I wouldn’t have sped up the process, If I missed steps along the way, good or bad it wouldn’t prepare me for where I am now, and where I’ll be in the future.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ll reintroduce myself, my name is Quantal Langford, I’ve been in the graphic design & creative industry since 2007 when I started Langfordesign. Focusing on brand identity and development, marketing and creative services.
Services I provide include: Logos, Brand Identity, Brand Development, Apparel, Character Design, Merchandising, Licensing, Marketing, User Generated Content Creation, Web Graphics, Podcast branding, Design Consultation
Building and developing relationships and truly understanding the vision of each client has been core at everything that I do for my clients. Creative Services isn’t the only thing that I do. I help craft ideas and solutions that helps my clients generate results.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that drives my creative journey, is building ideas and creating stories that connects with audiences. To be able to build a creative ecosystem that allows a person to build a business from their skillsets and pursuits. Being able to experiment with this concept and teaching others how to do that as well, I feel like is my mission.
I’ve always heard about being a starving artist, and unlearning this concept and knowing that someone could build a business from their gifts/skills/knowledge.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source of potential clients has been through speaking engagement and the Creative Brew podcast. I’ve created various client projects, partnerships, and opportunities from bringing people on to the podcast-creating value for them through promoting their business, organization or brand. It’s almost like meeting a new potential partnership or client every time I bring a guest onto my show. Understanding their story, creating a new relationship and potentially a new client.
