We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Quanisha Moody. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Quanisha below.
Quanisha, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
When I was 20, I made the bold decision to leave home and move to Duluth, Georgia. I packed up everything I owned into my little Volkswagen Beetle and hit the road for a six-hour journey. As I drove, fear crept in, and I couldn’t help but cry. I had no clear career path and didn’t know a single soul in Duluth. It was, without a doubt, the scariest thing I’d ever done.
Once I arrived and settled into my new surroundings, I began the search for work. I tried my hand at selling insurance and took up a retail job, but neither of them sparked any passion within me. Feeling lost, I even briefly considered pursuing my childhood dream of becoming a fashion designer. I toyed with the idea of going to art school, but that dream fizzled out as quickly as it had come.
Then, one day, a memory from high school resurfaced—how much I loved doing my makeup and how good I was at it. That small spark from the past ignited something in me. I began researching makeup schools in the area, seeking professional training to turn that passion into a career. From that point on, my path was clear, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Quanisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Quanisha Moody, and I’m from a small town called Valentine’s, Virginia. I now call Fredericksburg, Virginia home, but I’ll never forget my roots in that rural area where everybody knew everybody. Growing up, I spent most of my days outside, running free and helping my grandmother in her garden. Living in the country gave me space to dream. It was a place that sparked creativity and encouraged originality. Those days left a mark on me, and I miss the simplicity and sense of community that came with them.
Now, I’m a makeup artist specializing in beauty and glam makeup for all kinds of events, from weddings to photoshoots. While makeup is my profession, my passions extend to beauty photography and photo retouching. I love capturing the details that make beauty come alive on camera. I’ve recently started dabbling in oil painting, though it’s still a work in progress. And on a more personal note, I’ve taken on a new hobby—taking care of my orchid. If I can keep this one alive, I’ll definitely get more!
My journey into the beauty industry started with a passion for makeup. I went to school, earned professional makeup artistry certificates, and soon expanded my expertise into skincare. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have my work published in online magazines for both makeup and retouching.
Outside of my work, I’m a proud fur parent to two beloved cats. Being an entrepreneur has shaped not only my goals but my entire outlook on life. It forces you to ask yourself how badly you want your dreams and to push yourself to become the person you envision. The path to success isn’t overnight; it’s a journey filled with hard work, persistence, and self-discovery. My dream? To see my makeup artistry featured in beauty advertising campaigns, in stores, magazines, and on social media platforms for major brands. I’m working on building my dream portfolio, aiming for nothing less than my best self and the most incredible opportunities. Staying focused and limiting distractions keeps me moving forward.
**How I Got Into the Industry**
I got into the makeup industry by attending makeup school, and from there, I never stopped learning. I worked with photographers, tested my skills, and continued improving. In this industry, constant growth is key—the more you learn, the more valuable you become.
**Services I Provide**
I offer a range of services, including bridal makeup, competition makeup, photography makeup, and beauty photo retouching. Whether it’s for a special event, a photoshoot, or just helping someone feel their best, I’ve got the tools and expertise to make it happen.
**Problems I Solve for My Clients**
I understand that clients want flawless, long-lasting makeup but may struggle to achieve it on their own, especially for major events like weddings or photoshoots. That’s where I come in—I create a polished, camera-ready look that lasts throughout the day. Many clients also don’t have time to do their makeup for important events, so I offer on-location services or quick solutions that save them time without compromising on quality. Additionally, some clients aren’t sure what look they want. I help them define their style by considering their preferences and the occasion, guiding them to the perfect look.
**What Sets Me Apart**
What sets me apart is my personalized approach. I take the time to truly understand each client’s unique needs, preferences, and personality. Whether it’s a bold, glamorous look or a subtle, natural finish, I can adapt to different styles while ensuring the client feels confident and comfortable. I’m skilled at working with all skin tones, face shapes, and various occasions, and I can deliver high-quality results even under time constraints. Whether it’s difficult skin tones, tricky lighting, or tight deadlines, I handle every situation with professionalism and grace.
**What I’m Most Proud Of**
I’m proud of how far I’ve come. From exploring my interests to acting on my dreams, I’ve created a life and career that reflect who I am and what I want to achieve.
**What I Want Potential Clients and Followers to Know About My Work**
Quality and professionalism are at the heart of everything I do. I pride myself on using the best products for every makeup look, ensuring that hygiene and safety are always prioritized. I regularly sanitize my tools, use disposable applicators, and tailor products to meet each client’s specific needs. I ask about allergies and sensitivities to make sure every client feels safe and cared for. Ultimately, my goal is to create a comfortable and relaxing environment where clients know they are in expert hands.
