We recently connected with Quaneshia Survillion and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Quaneshia, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
The goal from Survillion Tax Services DBA STS Business Center is to build a healthier and safer community by connecting underserved people with the available resources they need.
Serving Underserved works by engaging the underserved population through education to empower recognition of health and social challenges. Resources are then utilized to help the underserved overcome barriers that adversely affect their individual health and social issues.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
STS is a tax company that provides tax preparation services but we are committed to improving the lives of underserved individuals. In order to achieve the goal of giving back making a difference in the community I created STS Business Center, providing a wide range of well needed business services to offer to the community. This is achieved by connecting persons in need with existing resources an providing free budgeting classes an free finical guidance. When needed resources are not available, it is the goal of STS to innovatively create and implement programs that will meet the needs of those identified.
STS role in the community is simply to improve the status of those in underserved areas that without our assistance may not access the necessary services instrumental in promoting better resources. We are committed to facilitating communication between existing resources and underserved populations in addition to expanding educational services to improve access and future outcomes. But we don’t stop there. When needs are unmet with existing resources, we implement programs needed to address those unmet needs.
We welcome you to our business and encourage your involvement in helping us achieve our goals. Together, we can make a difference for those who need it most!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
You build a positive business reputation by “prioritizing relationships, living up to your values, and capitalizing on memorable moments.” This means you need to leverage your daily experiences to proactively construct the image you want to portray to the world.
One of the most proactive things you can do to protect your business’s reputation is to ensure your employees remain above reproach. Every industry has best practices and a code of ethics. Use these as your guiding principles when building a positive business image. Make sure every employee understands what the ethical situations are, why it’s important to abide by these practices, and what to do when they encounter a difficult situation.
Further, you need to include these practices in your business’s mission statement and communicate to your employees regularly about the importance of transparency, accountability, honesty, and other key values. By doing so, you will nurture a culture that inspires respect from customers and competitors alike.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
It costs money to start a business. Funding your business is one of the first — and most important — financial choices most business owners make. How you choose to fund your business could affect how you structure and run your business.
My business was self-funded it allowed me to leverage my own financial resources to support my business. Self-funding can come in the form of turning to family and friends for capital, using your savings accounts, or even tapping into your 401(k).
With self-funding, you retain complete control over the business, but you also take on all the risk yourself. Be careful not to spend more than you can afford, and be especially careful if you choose to tap into retirement accounts early. You might face expensive fees or penalties, or damage your ability to retire on time — so you should check with your plan’s administrator and a personal financial advisor first.
