We were lucky to catch up with Quandra Hightower, M.Ed. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Quandra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
The most essential skill that I utilize is social media marketing. I learned most of that I know in school. I actually have a bachelors degree in public relations. As part of my degree program, I took a lot of writing and design courses. I also studied social media management and marketing.
Before I started college, I honestly just studied a lot of different algorithms and marketing techniques. I think that you have to really know how to go about marketing otherwise you’ll just be posting aimlessly.
I also owe it all to God, I believe that when he has a calling over your life nothing can stop it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m 26 & I’m from Jacksonville, Fl. I just graduated with my masters in educational leadership last month and at the moment I’m considering pursuing a doctorate degree.
My brand is focused on women empowerment. My goal is to inspire women to be the best version of themselves. I started posting content and Devotionals and it grew beyond what anything I could’ve imagined. I definitely think that when God has his hands on you there’s no limit to what you can accomplish.
I don’t want to paint the picture that every day will be perfect, because we all have our struggles, but how you handle it is what matters. The goal is to grow through what you go through.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to just empower women. I love the fact that I was able to create a positive space for women to fellowship. Honestly there’s days when I don’t feel like being on social media, or creating content, so that keeps me motivated and driven.
One day in the near future, I plan on starting a nonprofit organization to give back to young women of color. Honestly, if someone would’ve told me a few years ago I would be where I’m at now I probably wouldn’t have believed them. As a black woman I was able to finish graduate school, and create a brand that’s inspiring women in so many different countries. It made me realize the sky is the limit and I want other young women to know that as well.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when women reach out to me and tell me how much my content is helping them.
