Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Quan L. Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Quan L. , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I initially had no wants to create a business, I just wanted to indulge and embrace my gift in the arts. Presenting it to whoever was available to listen was and still is truly the biggest blessing.
I was having a conversation with a dear friend and as an author you need someone who can test read some of your work to ensure that you are hitting certain marks and that what you are writing is coming out how you intended, as the creator. As she’s reading and giving me feedback we discuss how important it is to write things “well” and the writer/poet inside of me pounced on that and almost nonchalantly said, “well, I’m a well written witter” and from that statement the vision was born. Turn it into a pun. Have it where it’s a double entendre and build a brand. The rest as they say is history.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Born and raised in Fort Myers, Fl. Received Bachelor’s Degree in 2010, from the University of Gardner-Webb in Sociology & Psychology. Currently residing in Dallas, Tx where I am a spoken word artist/actor. Currently touring for a stage play.
-How’d you get into your industry?
A favorite writer of mine, James Baldwin, once said, “the terrible thing about being a writer is that you don’t decide to become one, you discover that you are one.” My entire life has always seemed to be centered around words and communications. As a child I took extensive speech therapy throughout elementary. In middle school I was introduced to poets and poetry, both revered and contemporary. Both, struck a chord and I was immediately drawn to the world and possibilities through storytelling. During this period of my life, I was a bit secretive about my infinity for poetry and writing, but I would spend hours writing tirelessly through the night. About emotions, darkness, fears, anxieties, & acceptance. These were my first excersices of turning pain, the mundane and the unknown into something beautiful.

-most proud
I am proud of the trajectory of the brand and company. More importantly I am most proud of giving back and doing speaking engagements with our youth. From Florida, to North Carolina to Texas I have engaged with the youth to share with them the importance of literacy, dreaming with goals and planning for a better future.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being genuine. Can not express this enough. Most of my work and business is generated from being personable and allowing myself to be vulnerable through paid gigs, workshops, etc.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency. Learning when to post and learning to map out those post to gain traction is important. I always attempt to have videos and pictures set in queue so that way I’m not always trying to create then post. Having them stored gives me control where I can simply post/share when I feel the time is right.
