We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Quamay George a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Quamay, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I always wanted to be a creator. Growing up being surrounded by people who judged you for being different I immediately isolated myself and took a liking to writing poetry and it turned into a venting experience. Later in life I would distress pants and draw on shoes at the same time still get critique for being different. It made me depressed but I found myself exploring this creative side effortlessly, it was my getaway. I didn’t realize it at the time until I was about 18 that music was therapy to me. Now I realize that creating isn’t just something I do it’s who I am.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Moved to Atl In 2019 and got caught in Covid, lost my job and couldn’t be a photographer so I ran into thrift stores and I lived with a designer at the time and they showed me a few things about a sewing machine and I took off from there. With my creative background constantly pushing myself to limits I have not discovered before. I gravitated to the thrill of creating designs, I’ve always been fashionable but now this helps me step into that role and be more confident. Now I have attended several fashion shows, worked with hundreds of people and I just want to expand even more and Create more idea be featured in all kinds of magazines.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I look at everything as a challenge. What I mean is that I will challenge everything until I have my own opinion of it. Until I have my own creative visual of it. I have the ability to see what hasn’t been created yet and bring it to life. I believe the most rewarding things for a creator is the ability to create something from nothing. Once you achieve that you have officially unlocked one of your god given talents.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
One way I’ve built my audience was by creating photoshoots for my designs and collabing with people who have the right credentials. What I mean by credentials are that I have to work with people who take their career serious and actually have practiced to be better or at least attempting to get better. I will incorporate these very unique models who I work with so well. Each model I work with tags me each time, once I infiltrate their followers I always gain attention. That’s the biggest way to expand. Figure out a way to manipulate the audience into loving what you put out or at least grab their attention.
