We were lucky to catch up with Qingyang Xu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Qingyang, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Neckstal Adventure is a unique app designed with a specific purpose: to encourage users to take breaks and relax by immersing themselves in a virtual reality (VR) game that focuses on neck health. During gameplay, participants are prompted to move their heads in various directions to discover and collect crystals scattered throughout the virtual environment. This interactive experience serves to alleviates tension in users’ neck muscles effectively. In addition to the immersive gaming aspect, this app offers a range of health-related features. Users have the ability to monitor and proactively manage their overall neck health through both their mobile devices and the VR game. It collects personal health data and utilizes medical techniques to assess the condition of users’ necks. The app also keeps track of the total time spent playing VR games and offers detailed statistics on gameplay for regular users. Furthermore, it provides user-friendly instructional videos that guide individuals in practicing exercises to maintain good neck health.
The ultimate goal of Neckstal Adventure is to provide users with an enjoyable and health-promoting experience simultaneously. By merging entertainment and wellness, this app ensures that people can have fun while taking proactive steps to enhance their overall well-being.
Qingyang, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Answer: Hello, I’m Qingyang Xu, also known as Kacey, and I am located in New York. I specialize in interactive graphic design and UI/UX design. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from SVA. My previous professional background includes working at BBDO Beijing, a renowned 4A advertising firm, as well as at Aproject Factory and UXpie Design, both prominent design agencies. I have a deep passion for creating designs that are not only visually appealing but also logically sound.
As a UX designer, the process of designing creative projects involves several key steps. First and foremost, it’s crucial to conduct thorough research to identify the pain points and needs of the target users. Understanding their challenges is the foundation for creating effective solutions.
Next, the iterative process of user testing becomes essential. Designers should engage with users multiple times to gather feedback and refine the creative solutions they’ve designed. This iterative approach allows for continuous improvement and ensures that the final product addresses users’ problems effectively.
Ultimately, the goal is to create designs that are not only innovative but also user-friendly and intuitive. The most compelling and successful designs are often those that seamlessly blend creativity with usability, making it easy and enjoyable for users to interact with the product while solving their problems.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I place significant importance on conducting interviews with a diverse array of users. These interactions frequently illuminate the fact that the solutions I initially conceived may not always align perfectly with their needs. These interviews serve as a valuable opportunity for me to glean insights from a multitude of user perspectives, broadening my understanding beyond my own viewpoint. The act of actively listening to user suggestions and feedback during these interviews is truly invaluable. It empowers me to refine and enhance my work, ensuring that it harmonizes more closely with the preferences and requirements of the users. In essence, these interactions foster a collaborative process that assists me in crafting superior, more user-centric designs.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As a UX designer, my mission involves identifying and solving design problems to improve the overall user experience. This includes addressing pain points, enhancing usability, and streamlining processes. My goal is to inspire greater participation in the product design process, and I’m always proactive in seeking and creating opportunities to achieve this.
