We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Qiana Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Qiana below.
Qiana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I started taking classes at The Texas Wine School in 2020 during covid because I needed an outlet. At that time I had been working from home for several years and covid brought my kiddos home for online learning so I needed an outlet. Once a started taking classes and learning more about wine I was intrigued by the winemaking process. I then begin going to wine tastings and meeting winemakers and having conversations with them about how they made their wines, why did they choose the particular grapes, why and when did they chose to harvest. I became completely enthralled with the entire process. This led me to take more classes and to get my certifications. After a couple of years I noticed that for many people wine was intimidating and they felt insecure about tasting and choosing wine. I decided that I would make it my mission to educate people in a fun, approachable and relatable way. I now educate small groups in an intimate setting and even offer purchasing consultation to individuals who want to experience wine. I’m excited about this journey and love sharing it with others.

Qiana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a wine enthusiast first and believe in making wine fun, relatable and educational. My wine journey started with a love for learning and has continued as wine is quite literally very fluid and there’s always more to learn.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn independence in a way. I’ve always been very private and self-sufficient. I don’t like asking people for favors or help or advice because I would oftentimes feel like I was bothering them and didn’t want to seem like a burden or a nuisance. My view of that has shifted as I now know that the only way to grow is to stretch out of your comfort zone and lean on others for support when needed. I’ve had to learn to come out of my shell and let my voice be heard.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of clients is always word of mouth. The experience that others have will always be shared whether that’s good or bad. With a great experience clients will always tell others and promote your business sometimes without you even knowing it. Free marketing!!
