We were lucky to catch up with Qeona Pirtle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Qeona thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents have always played a pivotal role in shaping who I am, both personally and professionally. They taught me valuable lessons that have become the foundation of my character and the driving force behind my business.
From my father, I learned the importance of kindness, integrity, and hard work. He demonstrated that doing things right the first time is not just a task but a principle to live by. This has taught me to approach my work with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, ensuring that I deliver quality and value in everything I do.
My mother, on the other hand, was meticulous in teaching me the importance of attention to detail. She emphasized writing neatly, coloring inside the lines, staying organized, and presenting everything with perfection. These lessons may seem small, but they have been ingrained in me and are critical to how I run my business today. Being a good business owner isn’t just about knowing the ins and outs of business; it’s about how you execute every aspect of it.
The emphasis my parents placed on these values has helped me create a brand that not only focuses on delivering great services but also on doing so with excellence and care. Their teachings have guided me to build a business that reflects who I am, with intention and care.
Qeona , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Qeona, and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I’ve always wanted to be part of the beauty industry, but I knew I wanted to specialize in something that felt more like art than work—and that’s what brows are to me.
When I first took a class in brow services, I was scared and hesitated for an entire year, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Eventually, I decided to jump in, despite my fear of making mistakes. It wasn’t until I had my first fully booked month that I realized just how much I loved what I was doing.
Working for myself has taught me the importance of having a routine, so I make sure to stick to a schedule that includes time for my clients, reading, exercise, and daily conversations with God. Staying on top of my content and setting deadlines for my goals are also essential parts of my day.
I specialize in semi-permanent brow services, including microblading, ombré brows, henna, brow lamination and tint, and brow threading. My goal is to help my clients achieve beautiful brows that last, whether it’s for a few weeks or a few years, depending on the service.
What sets me apart is my passion for creating a natural look. I take my time, listen carefully to my clients’ concerns, and make sure we’re both satisfied with the results. The joy I feel during the process—knowing I’m delivering something beautiful—drives me every day. I’m most proud of not quitting and seeing my vision through to this point, even though I know there’s still so much more I want to achieve. My attention to detail and perfectionist nature ensure that we’re both happy by the end of your service.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was 24 years old, my father passed away, and the weight of my grief became too heavy to carry alone. I felt lost without any guidance on how to navigate such deep pain. That’s when I made the decision to go to therapy, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. Therapy took me through many layers of healing I hadn’t anticipated. It wasn’t just about dealing with my immediate grief; it opened up areas of my life that needed healing I hadn’t even realized.
People often think therapy is just sitting on a couch, talking about your feelings. In reality, it goes much deeper than that. Therapy is about more than acknowledging your emotions—it’s about self-reflection, reprogramming old patterns, and creating an actionable plan to move toward a healthier, whole version of yourself. It taught me the importance of taking care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The journey wasn’t easy, but it helped me become the woman and businesswoman I am today.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation in the market is being true to myself, trusting my work, and constantly practicing and educating myself. I stay in my own lane and focus on my unique approach to brow artistry. I do brows the way I’d want mine done, which is all about enhancing each client’s natural beauty. My goal with semi-permanent brows is to make them look as natural as possible, ensuring that every client feels confident and beautiful in their own skin.
