We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Qamar Brooks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Qamar, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Ever since a child I’ve always wanted to create animations to be able to see your own creations become motion for me is dream like. As a child I absorbed all of my inspirations that I see from shows, video games and movies to spark my own inner world from within. I was able to learn to get where I am now is constant practice, practice creates automatic muscle memory where things starts to flow easier. If I was able to go back and speed up my learning process I would’ve told my younger self to not give up, when I was younger I was seen as already immensely talented but gave up easily to failures and mistakes which stunned my growth to persist. Essential skills that I discovered that helped me is having a passion to learn and grow beyond what I’ve ever thought to believe that I think I was going to become and having inspirations for that drive to keep going. All of these things I find essential helped. The biggest obstacle I face even to this day is fear, fear kept me back from learning more, it was once I faced the fear that allowed me for new growth to expand as a person.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My Name is Qamar Rahil Brooks and I’m someone who has a strong passion in art and animation, I first got into my craft ever since I was little I felt like this gift was embedded in me. I actually first started tampering with animation since 2009-2013 I was using a old software called motion artist where I would drag and drop elements and characters and make them move. I also had a program called Toon Boom around 2014 I attempted at but gave up due to how difficult it was for me at a young age, it was until 2017 where I was more aware and actually started improving. As a freelance digital artist the type of services I provide are commissions. The problems I solve for my clients is that I can really create the perfect vision that they want created for a animation or artwork and I think that what sets me apart from others. I’m proud of the growth and courage I made through the years in my craft and all the goals I accomplished even from a young child. What I want from potential viewers to know about my brand is the high quality I put into my craft and commissions I create for people.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best thing that people in society can to to help support creatives all around the world is attention. Today I feel like creatives aren’t being displayed as much attention in places like social media. I think the people who run these platforms aren’t pushing this creative space enough but instead useless content that aren’t benefiting people. Imagine a world where this is a thing more original and creative projects will be highly supported and be able to be brought into manifestation. This will help spark more great ideas for artist and future generations of original minds.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Yes even growing up I dealt with people who are non creatives struggle to understand is the process and journey. I feel like people who think this way does not give attention to even if the outcome of whatever craft is bad. But never actually put into attention the hard work and sweat it takes to create a cool artwork of any kind. My best insight is to show awareness and actually dive into how the process it took for a creative to make something and to give some sort of respect to those people.
