We were lucky to catch up with Q. Sutton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Q. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Although, I grew up in the financial capital of the world, the basics to achieve financial stability or entrepreneurship were not taught in school through college nor easily accessible to a melanated girl born in the South Bronx. I designed my firm with those like myself in mind. To provide a combination of services and guidance for financially stable homes and financially limitless businesses. Through hands on experience, I have been able to achieve that through dedicating my insight and resources.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My market of accountants who aren’t CPAs are often triple questioned or completely overlooked because we don’t have those 3 letters attached. When some of us are actually just as, if not more experienced and qualified to get the job done. Starting out so young with more than 15 years of experience, direct acquired knowledge, learned lessons, trial and error of my own and of my clients has given me insight and foresight in many industries and fields. Being relatable, well versed and going above and beyond with each interaction whether they are my client or not, has built my reputation in my market.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson that I had to unlearn, is that I can get it all done on my own and not to depend on anyone. In finance, you have to be very protective of client’s personal information. As well as very strict with maintaining the integrity and overall air of your company. Involving other people can affect that negatively, so building a team was never the plan. I’ve learned that the right people can assist others in gaining experience in their careers as well as alleviate the weight of day to day and open the door for more opportunities and clientele. Finding your tribe is what it’s all about.
