We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Q Revy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Q, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I believe many artist feel misunderstood throughout their journey. I’ve been definitely misunderstood the last several years. I started as an secular artist then became an gospel artist in 2011. After several years of creating gospel content I transitioned to a more personal and positive approach. Each time these moves left my supporters wondering why such a change. I still get questioned about my decisions to create different genres of art. As an artist with the constant desire to evolve being misunderstood comes with the territory.
Q, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello I’m Q Revy a branding creator that has the desire to inspire. I first started off as an artist of hip hop/rap music in 2005. I initially started in a group of young talented artists called “Free State Of Mind.” After years of grooming and perfecting my craft I drop my first official release in 2009 entitled “Major swagg muzik” by the prep boyz which is available on all streaming platforms. I also launched my record label “Big 11 Ent” in the same year. In 2011 I was drawn to the the path of creating gospel rap music. It was a life changing moment I must say. This pivotal moment definitely strengthened my faith. I invested several fulfilling years in the genre and decided to make another transition. In 2019 I was led to pursue a more personal art form of music. At this same time I started to venture out into different lanes as well. My business partner and I founded a fashion brand for gamers, creators, intellectuals called “NerdLyfe fashion. This brand unveiled a passion for fashion that I had yet to embrace before hand. In 2021 I did a trial run of a new lipgloss brand of mine called Litty Girl lip sauce. So it’s safe to say that I’m up and coming entrepreneur. I don’t believe in limiting myself so I’m open to trying new branding risk to oppose to living with regrets. My mindset is life is full of opportunities that’s worth the risk.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, life! It’s as simple as that. In 2021, I had a extremely serious health scare. It made me come up with my personal saying “life is fragile.” In this moment I realized I hadn’t maxed out my God giving talents. It was a surreal experience in which I’m forever grateful for. So my goal now is to maximize my opportunities and my time on earth.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and entrepreneur is starting from scratch. I love taking a blank canvas and creating something beautiful that only I could come up with. It’s also rewarding to believe in yourself no matter what unfolds in life. It’s rewarding to live a life full of purpose. It’s definitely fulfilling to look in the mirror and be proud of myself. Feeling accomplished is a natural high for me!
