We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Purpose Madison. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Purpose below.
Purpose, appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
When I first starred shooting I needed all the models I could get. Shout out to Jet and Christy for being the couple I shot first and Waverly for my first solo portraits. It was very nerve racking putting my art out there. Eventually people were like well wait, we will pay you. And I was shocked because at the time my work was not good aha. But it turned out to be eye opening and I’m grateful.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a photographer based in the Twin Cities. I shoot branding, boudoir and events. My boudoir collective is it’s separate entity. I am also a digital creator and create lifestyle, fashion and beauty content for anyone who can relate.
I got into photography purely based on dreaming and exploring and it’s one of my favorite outlets to date.
I’m honestly proud I’m still here shooting. It’s not easy being a photographer without any real connections in the city as I didn’t grow up here fully. It’s also very saturated for the industry. So it can be very discouraging. I try to always put my energy into different outlets so I don’t get as disappointed when one doesn’t work out.
I want people to know me and see that I am multi faceted. I can do it all. And you can take me very seriously . I feel as though because I like content creation people don’t take me seriously as a photographer. And I take pride in my work. Trust you’ll have a phenomenal experience.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Currently where I am right now. Photography has always been my passion but content creating is equally my passion. And because I haven’t been getting traction in photography as much, I’ve been pouring myself into my personal brand and content creation.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth, and emails. Emailing small businesses, or upcoming businesses.
