We recently connected with Purefected and have shared our conversation below.
Purefected, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learned rapping battling on corners, in halls, etc. First recorded in local studios, worked my way up to recording with professional producers and engineers. Knowing what I know now, I would’ve started recording in studios in high school to speed up the process of being ready to release professionally-recorded music to the world.
The skills most essential to rapping are vocabulary, breath control and rhythm. Nothing has stood in my way of learning more. Writing and recording is like working out: the more you do it, the stronger you get.
Purefected, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an independent rap artist from Freeport, NY (Long Island). Living in MD since 2016.Got discovered by industry producers, met with most of the major labels in the industry. Numerous labels tried to sign me, but wanted me to “commercialize” my music (promote murder, drugs, prostitution, etc). I refused, and released my own music independently. My debut single ‘Open’ spins at top clubs across the DC area, video released in the last year. 2nd single ‘Money Grip’ also on all platforms. Both selected for Pandora Radio.
What sets me apart from the rest is the 1st perfect rhyme flow ever: every word in every line rhyme perfectly. No rapper ever even reached half that, and that’s what rap is: rhyming. Most people first notice my delivery–commenting on how deep and powerful my voice is. Many quote my bars: vivid imagery with poetic metaphors about everything all the industry rappers aren’t saying. While all the industry rappers are fitting in by saying the same things sounding the same, I stand out by being different (and far better). I’m most proud of never selling my soul when it seems everybody else lined up to, and doing the tremendous amount of work it takes to make it as an independent artist. My debut EP and album are set to drop next year.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to move the world towards positivity. Rap is the most consumed genre of music globally: over 25% of music listened to, far more than any other genre. Rap is the most influential music, and Hip-Hop the most influential culture, in the world. The industry uses it to push poison that has black youth killing each other, incarcerated, drug addicted and prostituted–and everybody worshiping materialism. All the major labels that control what the masses hear on major playlists, radio, etc. are owned by 1 of 3 multibillion-dollar corporations (Universal, Sony and Warner) that profit from the masses worshiping materialism. While doing so, they keep black people down by promoting and incentivizing negativity.
I use rap to enlighten and uplift. When I’m one of the most heard rap artists in the world, that’ll make me one of the most influential people alive. I’m going to use my influence to make the world a better place. If you can change how people think, you can affect what they do.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
If most people judged music for what it is and not how famous the artist is, they’d be enjoying so much more great music than they know exists. Most people’s opinion is based on how famous the artist is, having no idea why some artists are famous and others aren’t. If the masses knew that almost all famous rappers are talentless frauds only signed by major labels that make them famous because they’re willing to sell their souls, they wouldn’t consume the poison. If they knew there are far superior true talents like me who only aren’t famous yet because they refused to sell their souls, they’d be consuming great art.
When you hear a great artist: it’s free to add to your playlists, post on social media, etc. If most people do that, many more independent artists will thrive, and there’ll be much better music to enjoy.
