Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Prudence Fields. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Prudence thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The walk-in “chop shop” hair industry needs help! When I became a single parent in 2003, I had to go back to work. I was very fortunate to get into a couple of high-end salons, I trained under international stylists for 2 years. When my oldest child started school I had to find a salon closer to where I lived. I worked in a chop shop for 2 years. Very unhappy with my work place, and having to work with disrespectful and disturbing stylists in very toxic environments, I decided to go on my own. In 2007 I started with a traveling hair company, then opened a salon that I rented space. I was fortunate to make enough money to open my dream hair salon, Fine Hair Salons. With a walk-in avenue, servicing a lot of clients, and a maximum of 3 stylist at one time, for 10 years, I learned allot. Good and bad, and I want to be THE BEST, so I’m okay with all of it. The business made good money and my stylists made a good money, but unfortunately the quality of stylists I had, and continued to have, did not align with the my dream. It is very obvious quality stylists are hard to find. So I went solo in 2018. After a year of being by myself and a paid receptionist, I decided to move into a nail salon and do hair there. Still being a walk-in avenue, I struggled. Then the pandemic hit. I had to go to appointment only, and my business boomed! My goal is to not be by myself my goal is to have self running stores! I see the need for quality stylist and quality hair salons, where clients don’t have to pay a ton of money for hair services. I’ve worked in the high-end salons and I’ve worked in chop shops and I’ve worked in my salon. Now I’m ready for Fine Hair Salons to beat household name in The United States. My competitors being Great Clips, Cuts by Us, Fantastic Sams, Sport Clips, Smart Styles, etc., and all high end salons as well. Clients deserve to be treated with respect and given the attention that they want. I’m ready to change the way people experience hair salons. And help stylists love their job! The trick is, treating stylists and clients the way they should be treated, it’s that simple. And I have figured it out, finally. I’m ready.
Prudence, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m single parent of three beautiful children, for 19 years now. When I became a single parent I had to go back to work. I was fortunate to get into two high-end salons where I was trained under international stylists. I graduated out of 2 beauty schools when I was younger. After enduring years of horrible salon environments, I decided to go off on my own. I’ve owned 3 salon businesses in 15 years. So basically my clients have taken care of my children and I for 15 years. That’s amazing. Clients deserve more than they get, and stylists too, I’ve learned. I provide high quality hair services at affordable prices. I’ve learned simple methods for haircuts and color applications. I thrive on excellent customer service. Treating every client the way they should be treated. With respectful and talented stylists, trained by me. Fine Hair Salons is not a salon that depends on sales from hair products. High quality products and color are used on clients. Recommendations are made to clients only. Find Hair Salons takes the stress off of clients, and provides client with an amazing salon visit, free from pressure of having to buy hair products. Providing stylists with a healthy and prosperous work environment. I am most proud of God for letting me be where I am and to have as much experience as I have had. I’m thankful for my dreams and Fine Hair Salons will be a household name in America. So when one comes to your town please. go get a great haircut! See the difference in our service ⭐
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
With wanting Fine Hair Salons to be a household name in America, I have definitely come across challenges. But I know it’s for my own good. My dream has been punched by many people and companies, including my own family, friends, coworkers, large corporations like Target(I tried partnering with them, denied.), Shark Tank(still waiting for them to call, lol), and local establishments, because they don’t see my vision. I will continue to make my dream a reality by not giving up, just because someone doesn’t believe in me. I know my brand will work, I’m living proof. I just need the right team to make it happen. “A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position.” John C. Maxwell
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Since day one my focus is on the client and giving them what they want out of a hair salon. Great customer service! Great hair services! Listening to the client! Any stylist that came on board I’ve tried to make it a wonderful experience by providing them a great workplace environment. I pride myself and my business on quality and consistency. With good communication. Great services, and affordable prices! Trying to stay current on social media, and valuing the clients loyalty and trust. That’s how I’ve built my reputation.
