We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ProtoJ THA ThreaT a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ProtoJ , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I get misunderstood by a ton of people. I am ok with this, I just make a point to ensure they hear me out. I say ProtoJ THA ThreaT but, I PROMISE I’ll change this world. I want everyone to understand, we’re all here going through the same struggles, pains, sorrows, and blessings. We just need to make sure we are all able to listen to others experiences with life. I have an unorthodox personality and approach to this stuff. I just make sure I do what I set out to do, and stay aligned with my focus and try not to stray. Some may get mad but, in the long run, they’ll see the bigger picture. I strive to bring others up around me because I wouldn’t know where I’d be without them. Regardless of if they enjoy my art or not, I am grateful for them hearing it. I think that’s the main thing I get misunderstood by my character.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is ProtoJ THA ThreaT, but I PROMISE, I am going to change the world. My journey is different than most, if not all. I tend to get misunderstood by it. I want everyone, no matter where they were brought up, to come together. I wear a mask not to hide my face, but to embrace what’s underneath. I say it’s a mask because it’s easier to explain than an alien symbiote. I may sound crazy, maybe I am. I just want everyone to get along before it’s too late, and society is rendered by those who live for the wrong intentions. It’s hard to get people to understand a full perspective and be kind to others. We all are different, but at the end of the day, here for the same purpose. I just want to help clarify things with the world that can easily be fixed. Humans are stubborn and stuck in their ways and nature by mindset. I plan to help change that. I want everyone to be accepting to others regardless of bandana colors, skin colors, differences in religious beliefs, and intentions. We have to accept it, it isn’t always easy but, that’s why we are crossing paths. We all have something we can learn from each other. I get misunderstood by the way I try to do this. I have been discouraged by certain obstacles, but I know if worst case scenario I have helped one person change their mindset, then I have done my part. I understand that I have big expectations for my time here but, I can help relieve that by changes in mindsets one person at a time. Some people take me as a blessing, I am referred to as a ThreaT, but I PROMISE, I WILL CHANGE THIS WORLD.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my opinion, (as an artist), being humble and supportive of others is very important. Getting up in front of a crowd of people and being completely vulnerable and hoping for at least one reaction is no easy task. I try to touch on this subject as much as possible. I think people will hear what they want to hear, you just have to have enough people wanting to hear your message for it to be spread AND RECIEVED. I think people should reflect more on themselves instead of trying to keep up with their peers. This is why everyone is so self conscious and, I’m just like them. I just wish we could normalize this as a thing to help communicate with others more. I think that this could help society realize that everyone is entitled to vent their opinions, thoughts, beliefs and passions. Why not support them? Maybe, you don’t like it or maybe you do. I just feel like if you’re still there agreeing or disagreeing with certain things, YOU’RE STILL THERE. It’s perfectly fine to be there for others. If you can keep your cool, communicate like we are taught to do, I feel like the world would be much more prosperous for all. I hope this can help us come to peace.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to bring others together. I want to see everyone around me thrive. I want everyone to be able to do what they enjoy. I wish we could all help each other out and make it happen. I want to spread a message to the world just to shed light on the little things in life. We are the little things in life. The only way to change big things, is if you fix enough little things first. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just like making sure you’ve learned one new thing before bed everyday. You wake up the next day, feeling achieved from the day before and, with goals ahead of you. I think knowledge is power, communication is key. Just balancing them out is the hard part. I’m just doing what I feel is my part to do.
