Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Prophet. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Prophet, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
From the time I had understanding I have been an extremely emphatic person; almost to the point that the connection was too heavy to bare. I never understood why this was & at times I wish I didn’t feel the amount of emotions I got from witnessing or hearing of others struggles & pain. This ultimately translated into deeply caring for people. As time flys & interests grow, I took a liking to creativity, specifically with music. It seemed to flow naturally but also seemed necessary to funnel my thoughts & feelings. At a young age it was very clear that this is where my purpose lived. Growing up in a house with two pastors as parents, I was fortunate enough to be able to form my own personal relationship with God. It was through this relationship that the connection was made between my talents & my love for others. To create music that would have a purpose to serve more than just entertain. To comfort, relate & lift others; to reflect light & address the dark areas in the human experience. It’s a sort of philanthropy, not only for others but for myself as I also gain by giving purely. This is my mission; I do so by acting out of love in the things I do & I give glory to God through it all.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Josiah Reed, I go by Prophet. I was born in Honolulu Hawaii & raised in Houston Texas. I’m a music Artist. I got into music at a young age. My mother was always involved in entertainment in some way & when my brothers & I decided to form a dance group she jumped at the opportunity to be apart of it by managing us. After a short time of dancing to others music my mom suggested we make our own. Immediately I feel in love with it & after a few times of performing our own music I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I love to create music that helps others. Whether that be by lifting their mood or by relating to it; or by providing insight in areas that i’ve gained insight, or even by allowing the listener to step away from life to a place where they are completely free.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Content, Consistency & Connection (I tried to make that sound cool by using all “C” words). Sharing content that portrays who you really are is extremely important if you want to build a real connection between you and others. Now you have to do this on a regular basis or people will not be able to truly grasp you or your presence online & you’ll constantly be in the cycle of trying to start relationships instead of building on them. Lastly you must use marketing tools to promote your content, this may be the most important part. Promoting content via places like facebook/instagram ads will allow you access to the entire world instead of your immediate friends/family. This will immensely increase your chances of engagement & connecting with individuals who are more likely to become supporters. I suggest doing research on targeting audiences & conversion campaigns before beginning marketing.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Starting off young in this industry I ended up falling into the mindset of always only presenting a certain part of me. Always needing to be a smiling face. Doing this doesn’t make you fake but it does build a wall between you and others. It cripples the relationship. I had to learn to bare my soul & be vulnerable at all times. This allows others to truly relate & connect to you as a human being more than just a character. This also takes weight off your shoulders by allowing you to be free of the need to perform & the pressures of keeping up an image.
