We recently connected with Prodigy Tha Kid and have shared our conversation below.
Prodigy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I think I started at the perfect time, I’m still so young. I’m only 22 years old, but I’ve been making my own music for almost 11 years now. I’m glad I’ve been given a gift and created a path for myself at this young age when I have so much more to talk about and experience.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up, I was going back and forth between my mom and dads. My dad has always sang and been the frontman in cover bands around the city making a name for himself, and my mom was ALWAYS playing all genres of music at all times. So the chemistry between the two, despite the different worlds and locations, really led me to write and compose my own music from a young age. Rap was the genre that spoke the most to me because of how raw it was. No other genre was as expressive of feelings to me. Putting that with my influences of alternative rock and the singer songwriter genre is what really makes my style unique, I feel like. So building that up over the last decade as I grow into manhood has been a wild journey. I’m honored that people are eager to hear what I have to say in a song, especially if they’re looking for something to cling onto emotionally. That’s the biggest gift of anything that I do. I’ve been able to make an impact and that’s all I’ve ever wanted.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Right now is my biggest pivot point. After I released my album “10 YEAR ROOKIE” last spring, a lot of backlash and criticism was brought upon it. I say a lot, but in reality, it was probably like ten people. It was enough for me to look at myself and the image I was trying to portray as an artist, realizing I can’t live two separate lives. That led into my most recent album, “I CAN’T PLEASE EVERYBODY,” which came out in December the same year. That’s the most raw and natural I’ve ever been in the state of creating music. It’s my most important work to date, and now I’m just working on the next big and better thing. I’m excited to see where God takes me.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Right now, it’s to glorify God to the best of my abilities. That’s been my turning point. I used to just use my music as something to feed my own ego, but now God has really taken control of my heart and how I approach music altogether. It’s almost harder to create now because I’m talking about something that’s bigger than me. God will forever be bigger than me, so creating in a world where I’m not the ultimate creator has been an adjustment, but He’s definitely been guiding me.
