We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Prodigal Vybz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Prodigal below.
Hi Prodigal, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I believe life is risk or regret. My entire journey thus far has been risk after risk. From getting out the military early to chase my dreams – to betting on myself 100%. Acting was my first love and still to this day is a passion/career choice of mine. At the start of COVID, when the acting Industry hit a standstill, I began to explore a new passion
– music. The first two/three years I would say was me exploring my sound and learning the artistry of music and the depths that can be reached. As of recent I have been taking more the approach of believing in me to another level rather than waiting for someone to see the light in me, and produce my own funding like a label would. I have started my own LLC – Prodigal Vybz LLC , which has been my means for funding my music videos and Photoshoot and any business conducted in/around Prodigal Vybz Entertainment. I have been slowly building my digital team and getting ready to set up a personal tour to get my name more out there , which is where I will be launching my clothing merch and collaboration with a surprise vendor/entrepreneur. All of these possibilities came to fruition as I decided to take a risk on me and the gifts I know I have to bless the world with, and I haven’t even scratched the surface.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The origins or Geovano ‘ Prodigal Vybz’ Green in Los Angeles, CA actually dates back to the end of high school. Sports , mainly football, was my first love. But because I moved around so much and would always have to fight to reclaim my position I finally threw in the towel sophomore year. I ended up getting convinced to start acting – Big River The Musical – was my first play. The new found love for entertainment took me to a big acting event in Orlando called A.M.T.C. At AMTC I met an agent that worked for ,the then, Brass Agency. After speaking with her my sights were set on the dreams of LA. Unfortunately that wasn’t a trip my mother could afford and even if she could we had no family over here to stay with. I went to NY to start acting school and eventually ended up joining the military since that was my only choice on how to get to CA , make money in the mean time, and build a trade. From 2012 – 2017 that was my journey use the military to get me to LA then get out and get to work. Since then I’ve been in a few theatre plays, few short films, commercials, tv shows, and have had the opportunity to perform at some decent venues with my music. I’ve always been an entertainer, always had a deep love for music, always wanted to be a world changer. Hence the chosen name ‘Prodigal Vybz’ deriving from Vybz – a good time; good energy; memorable. While Prodigal refers to the story of the Prodigal son in the Bible who was was lost and eventually returned home to his purpose. What I’m most proud of is my resilience, perseverance, and dedication. It’s not if or will I make it , it’s when I do and what comes next.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Most Definitely. There’s a book for any and every tool needed for success or survival in this world. Me personally I HATE reading, but I love research and upon researching some of my favorite entertainers/speakers/performers/world leaders, they always reference reading and I usually jot down the book title and see if I’m there on my journey to really understand that book. It’s facts books are knowledge/game if you will, but not everyone is ready for every piece of game at any given moment – it has to speak to you at your current position in life. So I had to ease my way into what I hated doing but know it’s where answers lie. The most impactful books for me to this day are The Way Of The Superior Man by David Deida and Atomic Habits by James Clear. Both of those books have helped me with daily planning, knowing the true nature of the machine I am, habit stacking, and helping me put a structure that can continue to help me keep moving even when I’m genuinely depleted. I’ve since started reading. No Excuses by Brian Tracy is also a very good ready on pure cut simple facts on work ethic.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is something that goes hand in hand with any next level success. It’s almost an everyday adaptation. There’s always going to be something to present yourself with the opportunity to break down and quit or learn and persevere. When I first came out to LA there were circumstances I couldn’t avoid which led me to being homeless all while managing restaurants, going to school, and being lead on a stage play in Hollywood daily. After that has been honestly too many to begin to explain. The most recent I believe would be my studio situation. My main music studio in Burbank that I’ve had for the last two years had to come to an end due to unforseen circumstancs. With that was a lot of lost clientele and business partners, but through that process I was able to realize I’ve grown enough and acquired enough equipment and connections to build a studio in the spare room of my apartment and continue to make great, if not better, music.
