We recently connected with Priya Srini and have shared our conversation below.
Priya, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Hi, I am Priya. I am a Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer. This is how it all started, sometimes, life has a way of gently nudging you toward what you’re meant to do. My journey into photography wasn’t something I planned, and yet, looking back, it feels like it was always meant to be.
I have an MBA and spent sometime working as a manager in a financial institution. It was a career that gave me structure and a sense of achievement, but deep down, I always felt drawn to something more creative. I would catch myself dreaming of ways to create beauty, to tell stories, and to capture emotions—things that spreadsheets and boardrooms could never fulfill.
The light bulb moment came after my daughter was born. Like any mother, I wanted to preserve every precious moment, so I started photographing her. But it wasn’t just about snapping pictures—it became my outlet, my passion project. I poured myself into editing her photos, finding joy in making each image reflect her personality and the love I felt for her.
It wasn’t long before people started noticing. Friends and family would comment on how beautifully I captured her essence, encouraging me to pursue photography on a larger scale. Their words planted a seed. I realized I had stumbled upon something that combined my creative instincts with a purpose: freezing moments that people would cherish forever.
The decision to transition into photography wasn’t easy. It meant stepping out of my comfort zone and taking a leap of faith. But my husband, who has always been my pillar of support, believed in me more than I believed in myself at times. He reminded me that my work already spoke for itself, that my natural talent paired with my background in business gave me a unique advantage. I knew I had the emotional connection and creative eye for storytelling, but I also had the logic to approach this as a sustainable career.
What sealed the deal was understanding the why behind photography. To me, it’s more than just taking beautiful pictures; it’s about preserving the intangible—the fleeting emotions, the joy, and the love. Weddings and lifestyle sessions offer such a beautiful space to do that, to be part of someone’s most important memories. Knowing I could give people something they would treasure for a lifetime made this endeavor feel not only worthwhile but essential.
Looking back, the shift into photography wasn’t just a career change; it was stepping into the person I was always meant to be. It took a lot of courage and faith, but every step of the journey has reaffirmed that this is where I belong.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As I mentioned earlier, my journey into photography started with a love for storytelling and a camera in hand, inspired by my daughter. As a wedding and lifestyle photographer, I don’t just take photos—I create memories that last a lifetime. My goal is to make sure my clients walk away with images that don’t just look amazing but feel amazing too.
For my wedding clients, I know how fast the big day flies by. One moment you’re saying ‘I do,’ and the next, you’re cutting the cake. I make it my mission to capture every detail—the joyful tears, the sneaky glances, the wild dance moves you might not remember but will love reliving. My job is to tell your love story in a way that feels timeless, natural, and uniquely you.
When it comes to lifestyle photography, I’m all about capturing people in their element—those real, unfiltered moments that showcase who they truly are. Whether it’s a family, a couple, or an individual, I create a space where you can relax, have fun, and just be yourselves. That’s where the magic happens.
One challenge many clients have is feeling awkward in front of the camera, “don’t worry, I’ve got you”. I’m a pro at turning nerves into genuine smiles, and by the end of the session, you’ll feel like a natural. I’m also a stickler for organization, which comes in handy during weddings (trust me, timelines are my best friend).
What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built through my work. It’s an honor to be invited into such meaningful moments, and I love hearing how my photos bring tears (happy ones!) and smiles for years to come.
If you’re following my journey or thinking about working with me, here’s what you should know: I pour my heart into every session. My work isn’t just about pretty pictures—it’s about stories, emotions, and connection. And if you’re looking for a photographer who’s part artist, part storyteller, and part unofficial hype person, I’m your girl!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I decided to take the leap into photography, I knew it wasn’t just a hobby anymore—it was the start of something bigger. But like any new venture, it came with its share of challenges, including the financial investment needed to buy quality equipment and gain the skills to truly stand out in a competitive field.
My husband, he didn’t just support me emotionally, although his constant belief in me has been priceless; he stepped up to help me financially. He encouraged me to invest in myself and my dreams without hesitation. Together, we carefully planned the initial capital—investing in professional cameras, lenses, editing software, and all the tools I needed to create the kind of images I envisioned.
I also made it a priority to educate myself. I signed up for photography courses, workshops, and spent countless late nights devouring online tutorials. It was important to me that I didn’t just own great equipment but knew how to use it to its full potential.
Looking back, I’m so grateful for his unwavering belief in me. He gave me the space and resources to grow into the photographer I wanted to be. And knowing I had his support—financially and mentally—gave me the confidence to put my heart into this career, knowing I wouldn’t be doing it alone.
It’s a reminder that sometimes chasing a dream takes a leap of faith, but it’s much easier when someone you love is there, holding your hand through it all.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Honestly, it’s those jaw-dropping, tear-filled reactions when clients see their photos for the first time. I live for that moment when they say, ‘Oh my gosh, you captured us perfectly!’ It’s like handing someone a time machine wrapped in a pretty bow.
I get to freeze little slices of life—those belly laughs, happy tears, sneaky glances, and dance moves—into something they can hold onto forever. Whether it’s a wedding day or a family session, I’m not just capturing smiles; I’m capturing feelings.
What’s also amazing is the connection I get to build with my clients. By the end of a shoot, we’re not just working together—we’re laughing, swapping stories, and sometimes even becoming friends. And it’s so special to know I’ve played a small part in preserving their milestones, moments they’ll pass down for generations.
The cherry on top? Knowing I’ve created something meaningful that people treasure. Honestly, how many jobs let you do what you love and give people memories they’ll gush over forever? It’s the best feeling in the world.
