Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Prisma Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a daughter of immigrants. I was born and raised in the Pleasant Grove community in Dallas. I have worked with a variety of nonprofits serving communities in Dallas. Most recently, I cofounded an organization called Community Does It. I have a passion for serving others. I am innovative and aspire to develop leaders.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being consistent has been most helpful within my field. I am constantly meeting and interacting with people. I am committed to being consistent with donors, volunteers, and community members regardless of title or what they can do for me. I am authentic in building relationships. I hope that my reputation will continue to provide the opportunities that it has. Life does not have to be as complicated as we make it. Some of the basic rules still apply. We treat others with dignity and respect and that will get us ahead in work and life.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I am a first-generation American. This is not an uncommon story. Yet, daughters and sons of immigrants are among the most resilient. In my case, I was constantly asked to do things like translate, write checks, order at restaurants, and so many other tasks that are usually not for kids. I can recall many instances when I was learning and teaching my parents at the same time. I have a strong work ethic because of my immigrant background. There have been times that I have been disappointed or have wondered why our lives are so different but ultimately the resilience of my parents continues to inspire me.
