We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Priscilla Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I have contracted a marketing agency (KeeHart Marketing) to manage my social media. I had to realize that my time was better spent serving my clients and finding ways to grow my business. Once I was able to get this off my plate, it freed up so much time and stress. And the best part is that my social media continues to grow. It is reassuring that the content that is used is my original content repurposed for our followers.
Priscilla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the owner and founder of Modern Wellness Counseling and I am also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Texas. I became intrigued with the field when I was a research assistant in a lab at The University of Texas at Austin that focused on understanding the impact of stress on relationships. I loved being able to talk to couples, learn about nonverbal communication, and how stress played a role in how couples interacted. I remember asking myself “how can I apply this in a job setting?” I was in my 3rd year at UT Austin and quickly had to figure this out. So that is when I chose to pursue a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. My following research opportunities at Auburn University focused in on how couples relationship satisfaction is impacted after participating in curriculums that teach mindfulness and relationship foundational skills. Being fascinated with this curriculum and being an avid learner myself, I wanted to find a way to incorporate this into the services that Modern Wellness Counseling provides.
Taking things forward to present day, Modern Wellness Counseling was designed to give people the tools to thrive in the most important relationships in their life — the one they have with themselves and their romantic ones, too.
We’re a boutique wellness practice with a team of clinicians working weekends, days, and evenings. Founded by Priscilla Rodriguez, a Relationship Therapist and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Antonio, TX. Our vision is to do the opposite of the “volume-based” bigger practices. We aim to keep caseloads low, and level of care high-touch and excellent.
We don’t accept all types of clients, we specialize in helping:
– Married couples regardless of what stage their relationship is in.
– Premarital couples who are dating or engaged.
– Individual women [or men] who may be experiencing anxiety, past trauma, high stress, and issues within their relationships.
– Texas residents exclusively, no matter where you’re located. You’ll be able to get the care you need, without leaving your home (all appointments are online).
We also have a convenient online learning portal where couples and individuals can learn essential relationship skills at their own pace.

For clients who may not want to speak with a clinician but still want to work on their relationship, we offer online relationship courses that couples and individuals can purchase and still make a difference in their relationship.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
It has been to network with other professionals in order to receive consistent referrals. Since my practice specializes in working with adults (couples and individuals with anxiety and self-esteem), it was helpful to network with other therapists who specialize in working with minors and other populations that we do not serve. This way, we can help each other out with cross referrals. When a potential client is told by another provider they are already seeing that you can help them, this immediately builds trust.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We strive to be active and consistent with our email marketing and social media presence. We also regularly create new blogs and free content for our email subscribers which helps older clients stay in loop of what is going on in our practice. In addition, clients who subscribe to our newsletter (and even people who are not our clients) can continue to receive free relationship and self-care tips to their inbox. I enjoy getting responses to our emails in how it was a reminder to reschedule their next session or how the free downloadable worksheet that they received helped in their relationship.
