We recently connected with Priscilla Owusu-Siaw and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Ahoufe Events was created in May 2020. Ahoufe means beautiful in the Ghanaian language in West Africa called Twi. Society tends to define beautiful as being a certain type or kind but i want to change that perception and let the world know that is doesn’t matter who you are or what you have . There’s beauty all around us and wanted to continue to spread this positive message in the wedding/floral industry.

Priscilla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
How you got into your industry? The event industry really has no creative limits. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs my mom was caterer and my dad was graphic designer back home in Ghana—it’s in my blood! It was easy for me to get into this industry because I started a wedding blog called Ahoufe Bridal on Instagram in 2015 blogging about all things weddings and lifestyle. Through that I was able to connect with amazing wedding vendors in the area which grew my love for wedding florals. I also interned back in 2017 for a very successful florist and wedding planner.
What type of products/services/creative works you provide?
We provide floral pieces, décor items for nuptial and social occasions.
What problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others.
I provide a unique personalized, experience for all my clients.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
Being able to create a company in the United States as an African. That I able to provide customize unique experience to suit their preferences. Planning weddings are stressful and sometimes a client may need a listening hear and I always make myself available to listen.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Out of the jobs and the clients I was able to book particularly through word of mouth recommendations I was able to save. From that I begin to purchase items that I would need little by little.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I was able to build audience through word of mouth recommendations and being strategic on what I post. One thing I would say is DON’T GIVE UP. When I started I reach out to most several successful social media pages to get advices but that didn’t stop me. So just keep posting your best price and the rest will be history.
