We were lucky to catch up with Priscilla Nagy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time I would of started my own business sooner. I remember being younger and so eager to achieve success. I didn’t even really know what that meant at the time. I had so many ideas!! My grandmother was a hairdresser. I can recall her cutting my brothers hair in the backyard. I always loved the suckers we would get after our haircuts. My grandmother lived kinda far so we didn’t go there often for our hair. Most of my hair experiences came from my local salon. I remember always pointing to a photo on the walls, saying give me that one. The photo was a gorgeous blonde with a cut similar to what’s known as “The Rachel” haircut. I being a brunette with curly hair never achieved that cut. The stylist never explained to me how I could get it. She would just cut layers and I’d leave wet! Always full of disappointment, I didn’t want to go to the salon! I always wondered did the stylist not know how to cut hair like in the photo? Why would she have the photo posted if she couldn’t cut hair like that. I knew I liked hair and helping people with their hair. As a young girl dreamed of what my salon would look like. I always thought it would be cool and unique to have photos up of work the stylist at the business created. Today my salon displays a lot of my work and it makes me very proud.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Priscilla. I’m a licensed cosmologist since 2005. I have a wonderful family. A husband who has always supported my dreams and a son helping me to keep up on trends. I fell in love with hair at a young age. I believe your hair is a great way to express yourself. I went on my own about 3years ago. It was the best decision I could have ever made! I am always learning new thing, tricks and products! The hair industry has changed a lot over the years. It has continued to improve and inspire many. Even more recently the industry added many classes for communication. I love this! We are all so uniquely different. We communicate in many ways. I love helping people feel their best. I treat it like a superpower. It’s easy to bring people down. To uplift them and give them confidence it’s amazing feeling.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have always been told I talk to much. I overshare to soon. I have always felt like I was a open book. My bosses and mentors didn’t like this about me. I was told shut your mouth and open your shears. Talk very little and be mindful of your topics. Today I talk all day long. Nothing makes me feel better then my clients saying I’m like close friend, I think the best compliment I ever received was I made them feel seen and heard. My talking doesn’t slow me down, if anything it has helped my success.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think being educated is important. I have a love for learning. In the hair industry there are always changes. You have to stay on top of your education. I know it helps me feel confident and my clients love hearing about my hands on education. It’s easy to get relaxed and before you know it, your no longer giving an amazing experience. Consistency is so important!!
