We were lucky to catch up with Priscilla McKinney recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscilla, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
Marketing is a focused effort to make buyers notice your products/services. As there are many products/services to choose from, this undertaking quickly becomes an assessment of the competition and sometimes an overboard obsession about what the competition is doing.
Instead, we make the focus of marketing an obsession about the world of the consumer (i.e. What keeps them up on Sunday night? What gets them up on Monday morning?) and look for opportunities to collaborate (even with the competition) for bigger wins.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the CEO and “Momma Bird” at Little Bird Marketing, home of SOAR™ and Revenue Sprints, proprietary content processes designed to create sustainable revenue generation for busy leaders so they can have confidence in the growth of their company without losing focus on their other responsibilities. I am a serial entrepreneur, host of two podcasts and author of “Collaboration is the New Competition”. I am a popular speaker and podcast guest, recipient of many design, entrepreneurship and industry awards including the Insights Association’s Laureate designation. I personify creativity, entrepreneurship and authentic leadership – inspiring others to carve out their own path of success in her uniquely funny, no-nonsense and slightly irreverent way. Don’t give me caffeine. I don’t need it.

Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
In order to double in size in both revenue and headcount, I purchased an ad agency specializing in travel and tourism in October of 2019. We all know what happened in March of 2020. While that was a very tough road, I still was able to make it work and come out ahead, but it was a very difficult two years – one of getting things settled and the next of integrating this company fully into my existing brand.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I leaned into the idea of collaboration, and I led with giving throughout Covid. I offered some free training that was vital for survival and worked hard to connect many people in the industry I serve, most pointedly – market research. Instead of looking for sales when things were very “up in the air” I brought people together to help them leverage strength in numbers when more marketing spend was simply not available for anyone. I truly believe that in tough times you have to double down on marketing, but if the spend is not there, then you have to make up for it with time/effort. I showed teams how do effectively do this and I won the hearts and minds of the industry I continue to serve and now we enjoy the spot at the very center of the industry.
