We recently connected with Priscilla Carpenter and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve never been one for the ‘extra.’ I believe in embracing one’s natural beauty and being comfortable in their own skin. While I understand the desire to enhance one’s features, I think society has blurred the lines, making it seem like being authentic is a crime.
We’re often pressured to conform, to blend in, and to be like everyone else. But I say, why try to be someone else when you can be the best version of yourself?
There’s beauty in being unapologetically you. Your uniqueness is what sets you apart, and that’s something to be celebrated.
My passion is to help others learn to love and embrace their natural beauty. My goal is to empower individuals to see the beauty in their authenticity and to confidently own their unique qualities.
Priscilla , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
How I got into my industry/ business?
My journey into the beauty industry began with a passion for hair and art. I’ve always believed that hairstyling is a form of artistic expression, allowing me to bring creativity and individuality to every look.
During my senior year of high school, I made the decision to pursue a career in cosmetology. I enrolled in the Minnesota School of Cosmetology immediately after graduation and embarked on a path that would lead me to where I am today.
After completing cosmetology school, I gained valuable experience working at several salons. However, my ultimate goal was always to work for myself, allowing me to bring my unique ideas to life and enjoy the freedom to create my own schedule.
As a wife and mother of two, having control over my time is essential. I cherish the flexibility that comes with being my own boss, enabling me to balance my family responsibilities with my professional aspirations.
For me, working for myself isn’t just about running a business – it’s about living a life of freedom, creativity, and purpose.

What sets me apart from others?
Hair is not just my profession, it’s my passion. I invest my heart and time into every client, because for me, it’s about more than just a hairstyle – it’s about building connections and community.
If I’m being honest, the financial aspect is just a necessity. What truly drives me is the joy and satisfaction I see on my clients’ faces when they look in the mirror. It’s the trust they place in me, the stories they share, and the relationships we build that make every moment worthwhile.
With me, my clients find more than just a hairstylist – they find a listening ear, a supportive friend, and a sense of belonging. I strive to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. My clients are more than just customers; they’re family.
What am I most proud of?
I’m incredibly proud of my resilience and determination. Despite life’s challenges and setbacks, I’ve continued to push forward, refusing to let obstacles hold me back.
There have been times when giving up seemed like the easiest option, but I’ve always found the strength to persevere. And that’s something to be proud of.
I’m also proud of my vision and purpose. I know why I started this business, and I’m excited about the impact it will have. I’m proud to be an entrepreneur who is driven by passion and a desire to make a difference.
Most importantly, I’m proud of myself – my growth, my progress, and my unwavering commitment to my dreams. I’m proud to be me, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My entrepreneurial journey began humbly in my mom’s living room, where I first started doing hair for a handful of clients. At the time, I was working full-time at Sport Clips, but I was determined to build my own business.
As I continued to work at the salon, I also started helping out at my aunt’s shop during my free time. This experience not only helped me grow my clientele but also taught me the ins and outs of running a successful business.
When I became pregnant with my son, I took the opportunity to go on maternity leave and focus on my own business. However, the high cost of daycare led me to become a full-time mom, which unexpectedly turned into a blessing in disguise.
I started doing hair out of my home, which allowed me to be present for my children while pursuing my passion. As my business grew, I set up a dedicated station in my home, investing in the necessary tools and equipment to run a successful salon.
Looking back, I don’t regret my decision to take the leap and work for myself. It’s allowed me to prioritize my family while doing what I love, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to live my dream.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For me, the most effective strategy in business has been trusting God and putting Him at the center of everything. I firmly believe that without a strong spiritual foundation, success is fleeting.
In addition to my faith, I’ve also learned the importance of pouring my heart and soul into my work with passion and humility. I believe that humanity – being genuine, empathetic, and kind – takes you further than talent or skill alone.
When you prioritize people and relationships, you build trust, loyalty, and a reputation that precedes you. For me, it’s not just about achieving success; it’s about staying true to my values and living a life of purpose and integrity.
