We recently connected with Prin$e William and have shared our conversation below.
Prin$e, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Growing up in the 90’s I listened to a lot of Biggie Smalls and 2pac.My parents would never let me listen to explicit versions.I never knew I wanted to rap and make music until I was 21.As a kid I would sneak and stay up on school nights to rap over instrumentals for fun.I loved basketball and wanted to play in the NBA,but would always win poetry competitions.By the time I was 21,I capitalized on my experiences as a kid and poured everything into my craft as an artist.
Prin$e, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got to where I am by believing in myself and sticking to my strengths.I started off with no resources but that led me to trusting my own abilities and it pushed me to new heights.Embracing the unknown and loving the losses separates from the competition.I probably love losing more than winning and I see it as more of an advantage.I want to be a successful brand and offer more than just music to the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
You get to depend on yourself,I always had a problem being a team player because I always wanted to win more than everyone else in my experiences.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Stick to your strengths, before learning the business of the industry,it’s best to learn about yourself. When you know who you are and what it is you want,it’s easier to extract what you don’t want.If someone tells you they don’t like what you’ve created, that just means your art doesn’t connect with that individual.Focus on the “Yes” and extract the “No” as you move forward.
