Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Princess Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Princess, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One risk I’ve taken was retiring from the corporate world to focus on my dream of owning my own bakery. Baking is a passion of mine. I just got to a point in my life where I said life is short. I don’t wanna be in my 50’s or 60’s wondering why I didn’t do this or that. Why not try now? If I fail then At least I tried. So I made the decision to leave my corporate job and focus on my dream of establishing my own bakery. So I put in my notice which was a shock to everyone but I did it for me. After my notice was up and I exited the building, before getting in my car I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. I felt relieved that I finally step out my comfort zone and I’m going after my dreams. Things for my business was already in place but once I left the corporate world I started working on my business even more. I got help from my friend mother in law who was so sweet enough to help me structure out my business plan. Had pop up events planned and orders coming but then I started to realize the events and orders weren’t enough. I needed more business but it wasn’t booming like I thought. I had to make a decision to either keep going and fail completely. Or I can pause where I’m at, get the funds I need, and then pick back up where I left off when I can on the side. So my dream to owning my own bakery is not over, it’s just beginning.

Princess, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I created Sweets2TheSweet to bake and deliver creative custom cakes – baking is my passion!
I began my bakery creating cakes for family and friends. When I felt the joy it brought me, and the people I was baking for, I knew I had found something I would do for the rest of my life.
Because what is life without cake!
What sets me apart from others? Is that I’m Princess, my way of uniquely baking is expressed through my love for baking. When you bite in to it you can not only taste the love but you can feel the love. God gave me the gift so I want to spread joy and love by using the gift he has blessed me with.
I’m most proud of my strength to keep going despite how things may look or seem. I’m not a quitter. I may take a break and refocus but I will get back into the race to finish. My end goal of owning my own bakery will happen in due time. I just have to stay the course.
I would like for my clients/potential clients to know that I always strive to please my customers to the best of my ability. Providing exceptional customer service is something I always strive to do in order to build positive relationships with the people I serve.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My resilience shown when I left the corporate world to focus on my career goal of owning my own bakery. But things didn’t pan out like I thought. Despite how things looked, I was able to adapt to the setback and work on refocusing my plan so that I can get back on track soon. This setback of not having enough business coming in is only temporary because the comeback will makeup for what I thought I loss.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that you have to work hard everyday. And in my opinion, no you don’t. Some people work hard everyday but they see the same results. No progression or not succeeding. A day of rest is okay, a day of resting is okay, and a day of just doing nothing is okay. Sometimes we can get so busy with finishing the race that we don’t take care of ourselves. You can finish the race but what good is it if once you finish you can’t really enjoy it because you done work yourself to death. Now everyone is different, some people can just work everyday and take no day of rest and once they cross that finish line to success they can enjoy it. But for the people like me who just need a mental day to reset and talk to God, just know a day of rest is just fine. Regroup, gathering your thoughts, and then get back into the game. Don’t get comfortable with resting but rest just enough that you can get back up again and keep going.
