Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to PrinceKiyah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi PrinceKiyah, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Feeling misunderstood by society can be a deeply isolating and discouraging experience. As a gender fluid individual I often feel misunderstood because my values, beliefs, and experiences don’t align with the societal norms. From the struggle of being reduced to stereotypes to the frustration of having our voices dismissed, the feeling of being misunderstood can take a toll on our mental and emotional well-being. It’s a complex emotion that often leads to a sense of alienation and the longing for genuine connection and understanding. However, in moments of misunderstanding, it’s essential to remember that our individuality is a valuable contribution to the diversity of human experience. Sharing our stories and perspectives can help bridge the gap and foster a more inclusive society that celebrates the richness of our differences. Through empathy, open communication, and the courage to embrace our authenticity, we can work towards creating a more compassionate and understanding community.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m PrinceKiyah I’m a musical artist/entrepreneur. During the pandemic I started to do a lot of self reflecting and expressing myself more on paper. Which lead me to listening to beats and expressing who I am and how I feel about things through music. I try to share my experiences in life and hope that it will resonate with others and maybe be an inspiration to them as well. I always been a dedicated makeup enthusiast with a passion for artistic expression. Which a lot of people have seen from my viral transformations videos on TikTok. Having my own cosmetic brand was something that I wanted but did not think it was possible. With research and motivation from family and friends I was able to start my small business, PrinceKiyah Cosmetics. Currently we sell lip gloss, eye lashes and a few makeup accessories.
I am very proud of my self for taking the initiative in seeing out my dream. I want people to know whatever you put your mind to, it can be done. Harnessed the negativity as fuel, to draw strength within you to pursue your vision.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Artistry, in all its forms, holds a magnetic allure—a source of endless inspiration and boundless rewards. The true essence of being an artist or creative to me is found in the transformative power of creativity to reach across linguistic barriers and resonate with the core of human existence. The ultimate reward to me is my work having a connection with other people in the world.
