We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Prettyp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with PrettyP below.
Alright, PrettyP thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I discovered “PrettyP” when I was 17 years old. Growing up I never had a nickname because my name isn’t long enough for one. As i came into my artistry and individuality, I wanted to give myself a name that stood out. In school, I was always bullied for being the pretty black girl who was shy. I had a lot of envious people around me and monitoring spirits. That caused me to have low self esteem and confidence because I believed I wasn’t good enough for society. I gave myself the name “PrettyP” as a way of embracing my beauty and believing in myself. Pretty in “PrettyP” isn’t just want it sounds like. Pretty stands for internal beauty, self confidence, bad b***** energy and overall just being THAT GIRL. I used to let people make me feel small for loving myself but that had to stop! P in “PrettyP” stands for the first initial in my first name, Paige.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Of course! I knew i needed to make a name for myself and become something. I knew i always wanted to be an advocate for other young girls/women like myself who may have gone through the same trauma experiences i went through. I always wanted to be a voice and an overall girls girl because lets be real, these girls are MEAN and can easily make you feel like you aren’t enough just because you aren’t living up to the social media standards. After I gave myself the name “PrettyP” I wanted to capitalize that. That’s when i created my YouTube channel, “PrettyP TV”. I started posting story times to help my supporters resonate with me. My overall goal is to bring “PrettyP TV” to a network and make it a talk show. There’s so many fake narratives in the world and no one seems to actually want to help our young women and men. I want to show everyone that yes, you can still be a bad b***** and be down to earth as well. It’s almost as if society is making us choose whether or not to be a mean IT girl or a nice lame girl. Definitely not cool.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Most definitely, when I first started my journey, I wish I knew how much time and dedication it took to achieve my goals. Financially, I wish I knew how much a camera & editing tools would costs. I definitely jumped into it without doing research first. Also, I didn’t know how important networking was. As an introvert, I do not like engaging with people but in order to be successful you have to step outside your comfort zone to get the best results. Plus, you never know what blessings you’re blocking when you’re in your own head.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Of course! My overall goal is to help and be a positive change to society. I feel like my generation and the generation after me is slowly loosing it. The creativity isn’t as organic anymore. People are afraid of being themselves and often following trends. My goal is to show the people that you can be yourself and still be successful without cutting corners to get ahead. Lastly, like i stated before, I want to be a voice & advocate for young women and men.
Self love is the most important love. Without it, we can’t love anyone else. That’s why they say hurt people, hurt people. There’s so many people going through things that feel like they have to hide it or fake it for social media. I want to show people that it’s okay to be yourself. At the end of the day we are all human.
I’m currently working on a EP titled “Isolation Station”. It’s a vulnerable EP that’s going to tell a little part of my story. I recently dropped my first single titled “Isolation Station”. This track inspired my upcoming EP. It is available on all music streaming platforms 🫶🏽
