Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pretty Brandao. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Pretty , thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
There’s a particular client that about 3 weeks ago I got an update on her recovery from Meth. When I met this client it was in detox, while she was 7 months pregnant. I’ve had her in my session for about 8 months, and I’ve watched her transition into a great mother, living a drug free life, while also working a great job. She sent me pictures of her and her coworkers, on her birthday, looking happy and saying that my session helped her so much, and she thanked me. That made my day.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
From as early as I can remember, I was enticed by the allure of quick money. Throughout high school, I was drawn into a whirlwind lifestyle, filled with fast-paced parties and the thrill of quick earnings. This life was disrupted in 2006 when I had a motorcycle accident. Following the crash, doctors introduced me to Percocet for pain relief. However, even after my prescriptions ended, my dependence on the pill persisted.
While I aimed for a legitimate life, establishing a commercial cleaning business and starting a family, my addiction overshadowed everything. Even when counterfeit Percocet laced with fentanyl entered my life, making things much worse, I couldn’t escape its grip. By 2020, my addiction cost me my marriage.
Relocation to California was my salvation. Embracing sobriety, I spent four months in rehab and another six in a sober living environment. Grateful for my second chance, I felt compelled to assist others in their recovery journeys. Collaborating with rehab centers and providing intense therapeutic sessions, I found that my personal experience allowed me to genuinely connect with those in treatment. Their struggles were familiar, and I could offer them hope as a testament to change. On September 25, I’ll celebrate three years of sobriety.
Today, sobriety isn’t just an achievement—it’s my proudest possession. It transformed me into a better family man, allowed me to foster an amicable relationship with my ex-wife, and even led to opportunities like the life coach of actor Brandon T. Jackson. As I continue my educational journey in the realm of addiction and therapy, I envision establishing my own rehab center someday.
For anyone unfamiliar with my story, know this: I am an immigrant who came to this country with high hopes and solid values. But I fell into the devastating grip of opiate addiction. Yet, after a tumultuous decade, with the last four years battling a lethal fentanyl addiction, I reclaimed my life. Through sobriety, I’ve learned to dream and believe again. My journey has instilled a deep conviction in me that my past trials were purposeful, preparing me to assist others in their darkest hours. Today, I am fervently passionate about sobriety and aim to be a beacon of hope for all those battling addiction.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What I believe has bolstered my reputation in my field is my ability to approach clients without judgment, always understanding and connecting with them based on their mental state and my own personal experiences. I consistently reassure them that they’re not isolated in their battles, emphasizing that achieving sobriety is within reach.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
What I believe has truly elevated my reputation in Los Angeles’ sobriety community is my unflinching honesty about my own struggles and pitfalls. Not only does my transparency help to build trust, but it also offers hope for those facing their own battles with addiction. I also offer mentorship to many who are themselves on a sobriety journey, providing guidance toward a better life. In essence, I stand as a living testament to the transformative power of sobriety.
